Norwich2

2.Matt Jarvis almost gets Sakho in but cleared
8. Corner for hosts – header easily collected by Adrian
9. Doniel Henry impressive at heart of defence after tracking a Gary Hooper run and clearing
13: Action confined very much to midfield but the game has a more competitive edge than we’ve seen so far this summer
18 Jarvis lively down the left side – escapes and crosses but over the top
20: Good spell of Irons pressure. Maiga great ball to release Jarvis but his centre is cleared.
25:  Irons over pass in midfield, lose possession and former midfielder Gary O’Neill pushes forward to test Adrian with a shot he turns round upright
33. Henry to the rescue again as he is the last man as the Canaries rush forward and times his tackle to perfection. Looks a real player this kid.
38: Rapid breakaway by Irons and Maiga – looking in good form tonight – cross well for Sakho but the Senegal striker can’t get a head on the ball, it falls for Jarvis but cleared.
40: Henry breaks up a Canaries advance on halfway line, controls well and chips forward to Maiga who shows quick feet and just fails to play in Sakho behind defence.
44: Huge let off for Irons. The ball is shipped forward and although Ricky Van Wolfswinkel looks at least a yard off side he strides on and Adrian advances for a one on one which sees the forward strike the ball against his legs. PHEW!
HALF TIME: NORWICH CITY 0 IRONS 0
Half Time summary: The Irons are settling into a different style of play under the new boss with plenty of ball going to feet as they knock it around. However, they need to quicken it up in key areas. Henry has been outstanding when called on at the back whilst Maiga has shown surprising speed and skill up front. He’s always looking to play in Sakho behind and by his previous standards has been something of a revelation. Jarvis and Amalfitano have been lively in a game which is seeing the team become more competitive as they develop those fitness levels.Decent first 45.
OK we’re under away forsecond half and Nolan scrambles ball away as Norwich threaten.
48:  Van Wolfswinkel collects outside box but ball skews wide
50: Jarvis thrashes shot against Ruddy  from eight yards and then balloons rebound over top from even closer
52: Hammers ping the ball from one side of field to the other, Jarvis centres, Nolan beats defender but fires wide
58: Whole bunch of subs stripped off including the likes of Payet, Jenkinson, Noble and Cresswell – update to follow
62: Here they come: Cresswell, Valencia, Payet, Ogbonna, Kouyate, Zarate, Noble, Oxford, Oxford all ON for  Page, Nolan, Jarvis, Sakho, Amalfitano, Maiga, Poyet, Henry and Burke.
65: Jenkinson breaks down right cleared only to Zarate who plays in Kouyate but inches wide as Ruddy scrambles
69: Fantastic move from one end to the other but Payet’s first time quick ball through to Kouyate just beats the big fella and with the Canaries defence stranded.
72: Fantastic action and City so grateful to Ruddy as the Irons start to play some tremendous stuff. The keeper is forced to make a brilliant save from Zarate before Kouyate heads wide from the Argentine’s cross.
76: Zarate is revelling in West Ham’s real football and bursts forward to bring yet another save from Ruddy at near post. Excititng – really exciting.
GOAL: 82: Reece Oxford withe hel[ pf a Borwich defender clips the ball home from a Payet cross – real West Ham Way football on display
Full time Norwich 0 West Ham 1

Thank god for that,Nolan playing.Hopefully means he aint playing thursday. What a result that is!!!

  • orbearider66 says:

When announcing the starting line up, the OS asked what people thought of the line up. Personally, I thought that I couldn’t wait for the second half.

  • boys of 66 says:

Apart from Adrian & the two lads suspended thursday we are starting to see what Slav believes are his deadwood & second string & who he doesnt want for the bigger matches.Cant disagree, most in this team in midfield & upfront are the second string guys.

  • bubs says:

Are we sure last seasons rumours of Nolan having something in his contract that if he is fit he must play ain’t true,
I thought after his play me or sell me threat last week Slav would have took the chance to dump the waste of space,
No the suffering fans need more torment,
    Yes brain engaged before comments

  • boys of 66 says:

He is playing becaue he wont be playing thursday bubs. Its good, lol 😉
    Im watching on this

  • COYI@HK Ching says:

From the look of the subs bench, it seems the starting lineup is confirmed to be following:
Adrian, Cresswell, Ogbonna, Oxford, Jenkinson, Kouyate, Noble, Payet, Valencia, Zarate, Samuelsen

    • canchaz says:

I find the comment that the only reason. Nolan is playing is because he isn’t Thursday quite bizarre. Isn’t anyone at all concerned by the fact he is playing at all?

  • bubs says:

I know what your saying 66 but why give him false hope we could have given Cullen a run out he won’t be playing Thursday in fact anyone to grow there experience not give him false hope,

    • boys of 66 says:

I would rather he was made to run about like some lame duck in a meaningless match than sit on his arse for 50k.Cullen got a match saturday.Maybe he will be with the team thursday

  • bubs says:

Ching how did you work that out ?
If you are right can you give me the lottery numbers for Wed ?

  • COYI@HK Ching says:

Hahaha, i just think that those in the starting lineup today are almost definitely not going to start Thursday match, right? For Oxford and Samuelson though, I’m actually not too sure. As Collins might be preferred to Oxford. But I would really love to see Samuelson to get a chance.

  • bubs says:

Agree I thought we were going to use Europe to give the young lads a chance but after the first 2 games we went back to the ex managers flops,
Collins and JOB missing Cullen and Hendrie not here today
Looks like Henry has started well I was hoping he might be a good backup at right back to

  • COYI@HK Ching says:

As I can see in the match, Burke is RB, Henry is LCB, Henry just made a great clearance.
You wouldn’t bet JOB to be starting at RB instead of Jenks, right? 😉

  • bubs says:

I would not want JOB to start before you mate,
So Henry is left footed never mind it will have to be Burke
Not watching but following on here and watching Henry play last year he looks like a BFS
Find now that’s make a change,
Have not heard the traffic cones name much

  • COYI@HK Ching says:

I think Henry did well for the 1st half, I think Bilic is trying to play Burke more as deputy RB, as CB competition is so strong, Burke can stay as the cover RB and so we can dump JOB.
Similar for Oxford to let him play CDM, in a way to develop him better as a player that can play in diff positions.

  • boys of 66 says:

    Boring,im also asleep,lol,bring on thursday.Henry looks good though,bit of a beast,should be a heavyweight boxer 😉

  • bubs says:

But that just shows how good they could be,
Jenkinson could not play either of those roles with the same success,
Magia seems to be playing better but that might give false hope to

    • TysonM says:

I dont think any of Maiga or Nolan have false hope. The fact they are playing tonight & not in all likelyhood thursday should tell them all they need to know about their chances. They are ****ed!! 😉

  • JagerChugger says:

Henry looks decent and the young lads are getting a great bit of experience today. Is Amalfitano playing, Maiga seems to have done more than him recently 🙁

  • Si Hammer says:

Looks like it is going to be a strong team out thursday, which is good.Give these dead legs a run out tonight, keep the best for thursday 😉

  • COYI@HK Ching says:

The thing is we actually lacked creative spark in the latter half of last season as Downing was played on the flanks with Nolan in the middle. The fact that Downing was the only “flair” player we had in making chances in the midfield. [Amalfitano was great in some matches but not consistent enough though.] That’s why Payet is so desperately needed and Lanzini, Samuelsen are more creative than the current batch.

I would hope that we can land Alen Halilovic, this could be the decisive signing!

  • johnham1 says:

We have another potentially very good player, this lad Henry is something else. We should now be moving forward with players like Henry and Oxford, these two are good enough for the first team and should be used when necessary, I would loan out Burke to see can he have same impact.

  • TysonM says:

He has always been held in high regard John, but he got that bad hammy injury last season didnt he.Now he has the chance to stake his claim 😉

  • bubs says:

Would have thought you want him at the club to play instead of Jenks JOHN .
We do not need any more CH,s that’s for sure,
    Just need that goal scorer
    Where’s Lee tonight ?

  • Hammerman6 says:

Playing better, not conceding, but still no goals… still its a big improvement already…you at least feel there is a positive approach to our play, and not a for gone conclusion about the result.

  • TysonM says:

Looked much better since more of the ‘first team’ lads have come on.Might actually make peoples nappies stop filling 😉

  • COYI@HK Ching says:

After the massive changes made in 60min, the team played a lot better, and Noble looked a lot better with the presence of Payet.
The ball just moved a lot quicker from the back to front, and it’s ground pass…not ROUTE 1 😉

  • JagerChugger says:

Enjoyed the movement and effort of the lads who came on. The way we won the ball back was great to see.

    Will Norwich survive?

  • canchaz says:

Reading all the comments, particularly about Zarate and Maiga, suggests the need for another expensive striker is fading even more. This, in spite of only the one goal. The efforts and the play generally suggests there are goals to come as we settle into our regular first team .
Only shadow on the horizon for me. Is that Nolan is still getting playing time. The justification that it’s because he won’t play Thursday, makes absolutely no sense to me.
Why is he on the pitch at all considering the younger players we have just begging for a chance

    • TysonM says:

Because if he is sat on his fat arse at home getting more & more unfit we have no chance of getting rid of him.Have you never heard of the term shop window Canchaz.Blimey!! 😉

      • Vic Hammertime says:

No the magic transfer fairy is going to come & swoop him up & take him away.I bet there were some sad lad scouts watching him tonight, which they wouldnt he able to do if he was sat at home on his xbox.

  • TysonM says:

Got a good view of what Bilic wants tonight after the break.Looked good in the second half with the first choice guys on the pitch.Oxford is going to be a top player if he carries on with his improvement.

  • bubs says:

Just proved the difference in standard by our players, but agree another clean sheet and the better we play on the ground the better the class players perform

  • bubs says:

canchaz we agree on something 100%
Nolan needs moving on very fast now so the team can settle and a new captain can be given a fair shake

  • Vic Hammertime says:

Nolan cant be moved on if no ******* wants him,he still has a years contract.

  • TRB says:

Just seen the winning goal via Youtube……… a wicked cross from Payet flicked on by Oxford and deflected into the net off a defender. They all count, even in a friendly!

  • si hammer says:

Team looked real good when they introduced the changes & more of what will be considered the first teamers came on.Played some lovely stuff on the floor.
