BBC pundit Garth Crooks claims West Ham supporters voted for the wrong player in installing Marko Arnautovic as the Hammer of the year.
Crooks asked: “How can West Ham fans name Marko Arnautovic their player of the season? Surely it has to be Mark Noble.
In one of the most difficult seasons West Ham have had in the Premier League, it was Noble who assured the fans when they lost their heads that with their help all would be well. He has never shirked a game, a tackle or an interview, and against Leicester – when you needed a big man to match the occasion – it was ‘Mr West Ham’ who came to the rescue and won the points.
There is only one player of the season for me at West Ham and that is Mark Noble. As well as scoring from his only shot of the match against Leicester, Noble attempted the most (43) and completed the joint-most (34) number of passes of all West Ham players in the game.”
Garth Crooks must be blind, most of the season Nobes has run around like a headless chicken against speedy midfielders , of which there are many, he has staistics that show he runs the most miles in a game but , hey, not to any great effect, ok he has the odd good game but he cannot compete with most midfielders in the league, his legs have gone these last two seasons but he has been a great player in the past but this season , no way, Arnie deserved his accolade cos he has never given less than his best since Moyes took him to task, if he was English he would be nailed on England starter.
West Hams woes have been because our midfield has been woeful, Kouyate has been , along with Nobes , the main reason we have shipped so many goals because there ineptitude has put so much pressure on our defence and before you critisise me I have watched every game this season and supported the club for 60 years , which I think entitles me to an opinion on who is best for the Hammers and who is not, I have seen great players come and go and also, alas, some woeful inept players pull on the shirt, Nobes was good a couple of years ago but not since , same can be said for Kouyate, great player a couple of seasons ago but not now.
old iron may be old but he is spot on, having 4 good games a year doesn’t make you hammer of the year, Noble ships more goals than he creates or scores, lets be honest a good midfielder should get into double figures, he is our pen taker but averages 3 goals a season. please drop down a league and stop embarrassing yourself leave while the memories are still positive. Jack Wiltshire would make a good replacement
