The West Ham Player Awards Payet show

|

AwardsIt’s that time of the year again when the players, together supporters prepared to pay up to £330 per seat, attend the Players Awards ceremony at the London Hilton on Park Lane, London.

The posh event this evening is likely to become the Dimitri Payet show as he could scoop up to six awards tonight. He has two awards virtually in the bag already being the top goal scorer (with 12 goals) and is the massive odds on favourite for Hammer of the Year 15/16. The big question is how many more will he collect up on the stage tonight???

The award categories are below with contenders and possible winners:

West Ham Goal of the Season Award:  I think Dimi Payet’s will win this award for one of his four goals in the nine strong short list. My personal favourite is the Payet free kick versus Crystal Palace.

The nine contenders are: Payet v Newcastle, Valencia v Bournemouth, Noble v Norwich, Payet v Blackburn, Payet v Manchester United, Lanzini v Chelsea, Carroll V Chelsea,  Cresswell v Leicester City, Payet v Palace

The Dylan Tombides award: This award recognises the Academy Player of the Year and was won by Reece Oxford last year.  Reece Burke and Josh Cullen will have a good shout out for this award but they have been on loan to Bradford who that might preclude them. Difficult one to call as it will be who Terry Westley and his team decide has improved the best in the Academy this season.

The Young Hammer of the Year award: Reece Burke won this last year and I think he has a good chance again this year after scooping so many awards at the recent Bradford player awards. I also think Josh Cullen and Reece Oxford are in with a shout. Again Terry Westley and his team will make the decision on who is most worthy of this award.

Signing of the Season award: Dimitri Payet must the bookies favourite for this award with Michail Antonio and Manuel Lanzini as  the outside bets.

West Ham Top Scorer award: The winner with 12 goals will be Dimitri Payet.

Payet has scored nine Premier League goals with a further three in the FA Cup. Michail Antonio and Andy Carroll have both scored nine each so far, while Mark Noble has bagged seven this season.

Best Individual Performance of the season award: Lanzini, Payet, Noble and Antonio all deserve this award for individual performances. I think Payet will edge the fan vote with Antonio as the outside bet to get this award.

Contenders: Reid v Man City, Lanzini v Everton, Payet v Blackburn, Noble v Blackburn, Antonio v Spurs.

Best Team Performance of the Season Award: Personally I think the West Ham’s win over Liverpool at Anfield has a good chance of winning this after 53 years of waiting but I am sure the Spurs game, the Chelsea game and the Everton come back will pull some fan votes too!

Contenders are: Arsenal v West Ham, Liverpool v West Ham, Man City v West Ham, West Ham v Liverpool (FA Cup), West Ham v Spurs, Everton v West Ham.

Players’ Player of the Season award:  Mark Noble could be in with a shout here from his team mates who love him but Dimitri Payet or Michail Antonio could also be up for the award here.

Save of the Season award: The usual joke that Adrian will win it, is not true this year as Adrian makes up just four of the six short listed goals. Darren Randolph could be in with a shout this season. Personally I think Randy deserves the award for his performance against Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Contenders are: Adrian v Norwich 61min, Adrian v Manc City 85 mins, Adrian v Bournemouth 91 mins, Adrian v Man United 59 mins, Randolph v Liverpool 74 mins, Randolph v Liverpool 98 mins.

Hammers Lifetime Achievement Award: Last year’s winner was Martin Peters with Sir Trevor Brooking and Billy Bonds picking up previous years since it’s inception. Assuming the award carries on tonight then my money would be on a surprise visit by Sir Geoff Hurst with the 50 year anniversary of the 1966 World Cup win.

The Hammer of the Year award 2016 : This is almost a dead certainty. It will easily go to Dimitri Payet. In our own ClaretandHugh poll of over 1,500 Hammers fans Payet picked nearly 46% of the vote with Michail Antonio the runner-up.

The event of this year might be called “Dimitri Payet Awards”… Place a chair for him on the stage rather than a lot of coming and going… lol 😉
Anyway, Dimi deserves what he’s getting, outstanding player, my compliments to him.

  • Gobby says:

Is there not going to be a special award for Hippo to thank him for f#cking off 🙂

    • mattefumi27 says:

ahaha… yes Gobby, a little hippo made of chewing gum… lol 😀

      • Gobby says:

Lol,good plan Matte & maybe a nice red & white stripped beanbag for him to sit in next season instead of a dugout seat.We must give him maximum comfort lol

        • mattefumi27 says:

ahaha… great idea Gobby, creative people need to relax… his brain is full of innovative tactics, seems only fair to give him maximum comfort… I would also add a personal masseur near his bench. lol 😀

  • Billy the Hammer says:

Take it easy boys or you will have some grump coming on here to tell you that we should worship at the feet of Sir Samuel of Allardyce for the rest of our lives, lol 😉

    • mattefumi27 says:

ahaha… you’re right Billy, I offer Sir Samuel my deepest apologies for my discourtesy… lol 😉

  • spas says:

Surely there should be a funniest moment award, this year I’d nominate Mark Noble doing his best impression of a stretcher carrying off Ander Herrera.

  • IronHammer says:

I know that Dimi was outstanding, but Antonio deserves best individual performance award IMHO.

  • mattefumi27 says:

Anyway I agree with Sean, Dimi’s free kick against Palce is terrific. Video footage shot behind the goal shows Palace players thought that the ball was high above the crossbar… some of them were just leaving before the ball crossed the goal line… ops lol 😉

Such a shame so many players will pick up nothing for a great season,
Spanish player of the year Kouyate ( only bubs votes )
Young Spanish player of the year Lanzini ( you got it only bubs votes )
Most improved player of the year Antonio ( yep just me )
Most creative player of the year Payet ( still me )
Most under scored player of the year Adrien ( fact )
I could go on but as you would guess everyone would get an award in the end,
Except JOB ( I just can’t do it ) hope he gets a job with the black cats in the championship next year,
Long time since I saw a silver back beating his chest in the NE

  • GW says:

Never mind the player of the year surely the WHTID awards ceremony is much more important? £10 a seat, stats slide show a short medley of the messiahs best matches and excuses for not winning and all you can eat cake and squash.

    • mattefumi27 says:

hahahah…. “The Wetpants Awards” night seems really exciting GW… I want 3 tickets right now. 3 seats, so I can lie down and get some sleep, you never know… lol 😉

      • GW says:

Plenty of tickets available Matte but have moved venue from Rolfes kitchen to the Sam Allerdyce suite at Bellends gaff.

  • Radai the Lama says:

No seats available Matte, only potties to sit on,haha.I don’t think illiterate rabid dogs, morons & ignorant pigs are invited though.

    • GW says:

Have to sit a spelling test before attending Rads then have your mind wiped so no opinion then hypnotised so to give the fat slug all the credit for this season.

    • mattefumi27 says:

hahaha… It’s a great pity that rabid dogs are not invited… I had already prepared my black nappy to match my tux… there will be another time. lol 😀

  • djsteves says:

Sorry for posting this again but it seems everyone is over here!

Anybody know what the deal is with us finishing fourth and Man city winning the CL?

Someone on WHTID thinks that would mean we miss out, but I thought the whole five teams thing was brought in specifically to stop that after Liverpool won it and Everton missed out?

    • IronHammer says:

I’ve checked that few times. 4th place wont get CL spot only in ONE case:
City win CL + Liverpool win Europa + both City and Poll finish outside top 4. Its OFFICIAL. Heres a link to UEFA explanation: http://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/news/newsid=2215121.html.

Any other scenario means 4th place will get CL play-off round.

PS. I wonder why some people continue to publish that misleading info bouth 4th place.

  • Billy the Hammer says:

I read the same thing online somewhere mate.Seems it is factual that it will go to only three places if Citeh do win the CL.Sorry I can’t offer an explanation I’m illiterate, lol, but it does seem the case.

    • IronHammer says:

Billy, its not the case. Only of pool and city BOTH win CL and EL and finish outside top 4. The limit for England in CL is 5 teams.

      • Billy the Hammer says:

Oh ok,thanks.Didn’t really read it too thoroughly at the time.Just skimmed through the article.Must have misunderstood it or didn’t pay enough attention, lol. My teacher always said I lacked any attention span,he was right, cheers 🙂

  • RickHammer says:

There’s an article I read in the telegraph about it a few weeks back.Of course it is all about how Manure might be denied, not us.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/04/15/why-liverpool-and-manchester-city-could-end-manchester-uniteds-c/

  • mattefumi27 says:

Hi Dj, I’m not 100% sure , but I think if Man City win the CL (ore they don’t win the CL) and we finish fourth, we’ll advance to the CL qualifying round. There is a maximum of 4 teams for each country: currently only England, Germany and Spain have 4 places, while the other nations three or fewer places. But please, check with the managers of the other site, they owe the absolute truth. lol 😉

    • mattefumi27 says:

Ops, I think Iron is right, I just opened his link… I’m just an ignorant illiterate pig… lol 😀

      • IronHammer says:

nope youre not, those ‘smarties’ at wetpents are 😉

      • Billy the Hammer says:

Well if you are illiterate you have the get out of using a language that isn’t your first language Matte,I have no excuses, lol 😀

      • mattefumi27 says:

ahah… thanks guys for the support… lol 😉

        • essexclarets says:

The FA would go in to melt down if we qualify for the CL, 3 teams outside the “top 5” will pi$$ on their bonfire lol

  • essexclarets says:

    • Billy the Hammer says:

Nope,AOI hasn’t appeared to give us a breakdown on what qualifies as high brow or not today.I’m pretty certain we have all been low brow though. We don’t have his mental capabilities of course. That is a given, lol

  • djsteves says:

Thanks for clearing that up for me chaps.
