West Ham Pie and Mash shop to close

|

Nathans Pie and Mash shop will close in May after 80 years serving West Ham fans in East Ham.

A notice to customers said “Dear Customer, after 80 years of trading in East Ham we regret that the Nathan family have decided to retire from the Pie and Mash business. Our last day will be Saturday 26th May 2018. On behalf of the management and all the staff we’d like to say a huge thank you to all our customers old and new who have supported us over the many years we have been here.

Best wishes from the Nathan family and all the girls”

More recently Nathans has been delivering pre-ordered Pie and Mash to the West Ham United Supporters Club at Stour Place in Hackney Wick close to the London Stadium but this service will also cease.

The London Pie and Mash Company have a stall outside the London Stadium but at £6.50 for a single pie and mash West Ham supporters claim the price and the quality does not compare to Nathans.

Well here’s another thing we can caulk up to the move…. what a complete and utter disgrace this was allowed to happen after 80 years of trading, I doubt our owners will feel any remorse though.

They say they have decided to retire from their business, nothing about our owners or the move, why does everything have to be blamed on them? I am no fan of G&S by the way.

wheres our traditional cockney geezer, mark noble, going to take his northern team mates now when he wants to teach them a bit of rhyming slang while getting some pie and mash down his neck.?

  • The Demon says:

Bearing in mind the entire Starr is twenty years past pensionable age and no one that lives locally wants pie and mash, let’s not try to be surprised. Sure, Nathan’s was a pre-match ritual for many of us, but even before our move, the place was empty every weekday lunchtime. I once went there three lunchtimes in a row when I was working nearby, and never saw another pie sold!

*Starr* = *staff*. Autocorrect at its finest.

    • Nathans were contacted by the club and asked if they wanted to set up a pop-up stall outside the London Stadium but they said it was not their thing and declined. They said they were an old family business with no ambitions to expand. The club ended up speaking to the London Pie and Mash company instead who are now in place.

This retirement has been on the cards for some time I am told.

All good things come to an end at some point, wish them all the best in their retirement or future ventures.
