West Ham spending to exceed £100m

|

West Ham spending is set to top £100m this summer but outbound sales are still likely to bring that down to net spend of around £75m.

The Hammers spent £22m on Issa Diop, £7m on Łukasz Fabianski, £10m of signing on and agent fees for free agents Ryan Fredericks and Jack Wilshere.

It appears Andriy Yarmolenko will soon complete his transfer for around £17.6m (20 million Euros) plus Fabian Balbuena for £3.5m (4 million euros)

This would take West Ham’s overall committed spending to just over £60m but the record signing of Felipe Anderson at £40m expected by the end of this week would bring the total to over £100m!

West Ham will still want to balance their books by selling some players that Pellegrini believes are surplus to his requirements.

These could include Michail Antonio £15m and Cheik Kouyate £10m which could bring West Ham’s spending within the predicted transfer budget.

Although transfer fees are spread over a number of years that works both ways and evens itself out. We are still paying for players we have purchased over the last three years and equally we are still being paid for players we sold in the last three years so a case of swings and roundabouts.

Sad if we say goodbye to Antonio..
So fast and exciting, but if we get Yarmalenko and ? Anderson, then we will be fine.
In addition we have Nathan Holland and Marcus Browne who must be close to first team inclusion.
Unfortunately, Michail had problems converting the numerous chances that he created which he created.
Not sure about Kouyate-he has been hampered by injuries and did not enjoy a particularly good season last year..

I usually just skim through the transfer stuff because so much is speculation (or fantasy!) but I haven’t noticed anything much about CDM. I thought that was one of the priorities? There now seems to be talk of Obiang going. I know Rice can play there but don’t we need at least another experienced player in that position? This window has been very interesting. Exciting even, withpretty much a new side is emerging so I don’t feel we can moan. But there doesn’t seem to be much more to spend if Anderson is coming, so is there a CDM on the radar?

I’m not convinced Obiang will go, but even if he and Kouyate go, we will have Rice, Noble, Cullen, Oxford, Wilshere and Fernandes that could play there. Would love to see someone like Cavalho come into that role though, if he’s still available/of interest.

Maybe MP thinks Rice or Oxford can fill the slot or Zaba, personally I don’t think any of them are CDM’s, Obiang is pretty good in that place, Noble perhaps but he is reactive, I really hope we do sign Seri or another CDM or play Wilshere a bit deeper, Kouyate lacks the discipline to play CDM so who knows but it is definitely the area of the field that is the highest priority for attention.

After the ‘£100mil’ West Ham will still be net spending lower than the top half of the premiership…..

    • Mr Buddy Lurve says:

Is that right? Do you have the stats? I would’ve thought the top 6, certainly, but I’d be surprised if the likes of Burnley, Everton and Newcastle are significantly outspending us…?

I think we’re building a team to aim for top 8, but certainly a regular top 10 side for the next few years, and the movements we’re making are aligned with that.

Agree top 6 plus maybe Everton or Leicester might give us a run for our money and the net spend is still said to be around £75m so lets see, this is what we need to be spending minimum every season for the next few years if we want to establish ourselves in Europe COYI !!!

That’s a long list of ‘potential’ CDMs. Sadly, quantity & quality are two different things. It is a specialist position & a really important one. I think part of our defensive frailty in the last few seasons can be traced back to our weakness there. Carvalho is the type of player I am thinking about but I wasn’t impressed by him at the WC.

    • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

If we could get Carvalho amazing, Seri even better but with a £40m price tag not sure how likely that is…

      • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Just read a report that Fulham had agreed a £20m price for Seri but he is waiting to consider other offers if so get the chequebook out DS he is the answer at CDM.

It’s not you g to be100mil wen they sel! 3\4 players ..let’s not make our that they have spent a ridiculous amount.. You have to do this every year to be competing.. And remember the last 4 years net spend was embarrassing..this is what they should be doing
