Andy Carroll feels “fantastic” after making his first start of the season.

Despite the defeat the striker was delighted to be back in action and said: “Obviously we’re disappointed with the result, but to get 60 minutes under my belt was good,” he said.

“I didn’t get on against Manchester City and only had two minutes against Newcastle, so an hour is good and I feel fantastic.

“I felt good before I went out there. I’ve been training well and trying to get as fit as I can.

I’ve been raring to start and was itching to get on last week as well, so it was pleasing to start at Leicester.”

Well off the pace lastnight,to be expected until he gets more minutes under his belt.Personally i cant see how he fits into our team at present. We will see.

  • TysonM says:

Well he never got injured, thats something to take from the game 😉

  • Boys of 66 says:

He looked well rusty didnt he.There again the amount of time he spends injured he is rusty a lot of the time.Interesting to see what Slav does now he is available.Sakho is my man over Carroll & i hope he isnt going to get shafted when AC is back to full fitness.Sakho & Carroll up front together, cant see it myself under Bilic 😉

  • Sams P45 says:

I have this feeling that AC might become a bit of an odd man out for Bilic. Not sure myself whether Bilic will really want an AC type of player on a weekly basis.Who knows.Outside chance of him moving on in Jan i reckon.

    • Boys of 66 says:

I wouldnt totally write it off that we might end up flogging him.Mind you i think before you post things like this P45 you should run it past Mr.Opinion first or he might Call You Out 😀

      • Sams P45 says:

Lol,anyone is welcome to call me out in reality. Not a problem.Actually in some cases i would relish it 😀

        • Billy Hammer says:

Lmao, yep, agree, there are a few i would love to Call Me Out in reality too.Mind you they would probably Opinion me to death, lol

Looked long way from full fitness, and not fully up to speed when did get the ball where to go with it,
Sakho just offers so much more for players around him and will score more goals,
We should probably have stuck with him until the end because it did not work putting Moses up the middle,
But I am sure he will adapt if he wants to stay and fight for his place

  • Alan the 'appy 'ammer says:

Agree bubs,Sakho for me given the choice & the way we aim to play at the moment.Bilic has recognised Sakhos overall contribution, think he is Slavs man as it stands.

  • Vic Hammertime says:

Think AC will still have a part to play for us as the season progresses. But i do agree it is fitting him into the system or adapting a system to incorporate him or him adapting to it which may be more the case.Sakho gives so much mobility Carroll just doesnt have.Especially away from home if we want to break with the swift counter attacks.Time will tell i guess boys 😉

  • canchaz says:

I’ve been saying ever since his return became imminent, that I can’t see him in any other role but an impact sub. In this role, his different style could throw tiring defence right off balance but as a regular starter upfront, I just don’t see it

  • Billy Hammer says:

But the problem then Canchaz is he wont settle for being an impact sub imo.He will want to do a runner. But most the wise owls elsewhere believe he will back in the team as a regular soon what do i know, lol

  • essexclarets says:

Unlike other seasons we have a manager that can have more than ‘Plan A, if fails resort to Plan A & panic’ different games we need different formations, if we are to progress as a club upwards then players are going to have realise that they wont always be first choice.
There is no way he will expect to walk back into the 1st team, he will have to fight his way back into contention.

Can see him being useful with Cresswell and jenks overlapping wide men and getting crosses in to him. Payet seems to be looking forward to playing with him so I guess he sees them playing well together but personally struggle to see him bringing enough for us to not play Sakho and struggle to see AC and Sakho playing together. Imo if it ain’t broke don’t fix it, use AC as an impact sub and to change approach. If he plays well and earns the right to get more playing time give it and let him earn his place in the team like everyone else and improve match fitness as he does.

  • bubs says:

Sorry John but did not see much evidence last night in fact never once did Lanzini,Moses,Jenks or Cressie put in a cross for him to get onto,
He never got near any free kicks or corners,
Taking into he is rusty it was a quite night, but we are not looking to get to the line and cross we are coming through the middle with clever foot work and shoot it put someone through in the box,
Can’t see us changing that system unless we are desperate in the last 10 mins
That makes him an impact sub

  • jonnyem1 says:

Must admit I didn’t see the game last night so haven’t seen him play under Billic, tried streaming it but couldn’t get past the adds. Struggle to see him playing any other role than getting on the end of crosses or holding it up and laying it off for attacking midfielders to get on. Can’t see him having the the vision to create space for others or to fill space created for him and have never seen him play an intricate fast passing game. Not sure he can either so it’s hard to see him fitting in imo. Hope he can because otherwise he’s cost us a fortune for little return. I wouldn’t know what else he has in the bag because he’s either been injured or used to get on the end of hippos long ball game. Totally agree that being used as an impact sub is probably all he’s good for atm and may be the full extent of his use to us if we don’t use the lines to whip a few crosses in to him and am a firm believer that you have to earn the right to play based on performance. Would like to see him have an injury free season though as he could be more adaptable than we know….

  • ironswatch says:

Carol does not fit into this system fit or not fit sorry to say keep him free of injury and sell him in jan we will have to take a hit but at least we will save of his wages we must not make the same mistake of last year carol needs a team build round him to get the best of him and we have moved on from there and in any case he does not score enough goals

    • SlimJim says:

I agree about the goals. He may assist other players but he has never been a prolific goalscorer himself apart from a brief spell in his younger days.I have read people saying he will score 20 goals a season for us when fit.He has never been a 20 goals a season man, never will be imo.

  • ironswatch says:

Valianca will be back soon and he should be in front of carroll cos of his speed

  • ironswatch says:

    valencia sorry
