24 hours to go as we look for a Villa defeat

|

Let’s be honest making any sort of prediction in circumstances such as we are about to encounter is foolhardy in the extreme.

The opening day of every season – and that’s what this feels like – is always a difficult one to call with some very strange results usually  emerging.

And with 24 hours to go before relegation rivals Aston Villa spring into action against Sheffield United it would be a very brave or stupid man to start making scorecasts although having never been short on stupidity I’m tempted to have a go.

One thing I am sure of is that every other individual at other clubs will be watching pretty closely to see if there’s anything they can learn as the Villains and Blades lock horns.

It’s difficult to see how any sort of advantage will be gained from playing at home and the reality is that it will be down to form and fitness.

The first game is by no means a meaningless affair given Villa’s position and United’s European qualifying hopes with themselves and Wolves both seemingly fighting it out for a place in the Europa League.

That’s a much more positive incentive than avoiding relegation and Chris Wilder’s team went their last six games before the break unbeaten whilst Villa lost their last four.

Even allowing for surprises it would be a surprise were Villa to make any ground on the Hammers tomorrow night and i’ll go for a 2-1 away victory over a team that gives the ball away a bit too much.

Either way we will all be Blades supporters for the night!
