Hughie hands out his marks
Randolph: Late sub for Fab who was injured in warm up. Very little to do behind a brilliant defensive performance but one good save. 6
Couval: Another outstanding performance at back and front. It’s becoming the norm 8
Dawson: Very steady performance to accompany his debut against Saints. He’s surprising a few of us 7
Ogbonna: Absolutely immense – nothing went by him on the floor or particularly in the air. MOM 9
Cresswell: Exciting performance from Cress. A real attacking force down the left and sound defensively 8
Rice: Fine performance and with Soucek dominant – one great cross into the box deserved to find someone on the end of it 7+
Soucek: Fifth goal of the season and absolutely dominant performance throughout 8
Fornals: Worked hard as usual but once again missed a vital chance 5+
Bowen: Subbed again – the most subbed player in the league but a fine performance for 70 mins or so 7
Benrahma: Easy to see why Moysie is unsure about his ball retention qualities or lack of them, gave it away far too often. Not the best night for him 6
Haller: More involved and some decent runs and knock offs but still gets bullied by defenders 6
Subs
Antonio: Looked closer to match fitness, one reasonable shot on target. This will have done him a lot of good 5+
Lanzini: Neat and tidy without making any serious waves 5
Yarmo: On with Lanzini and much the same sort of performance 5
Agree!! If. We had a finisher we would be 8pts better off ⚒️⚒️⚒️
Thank you for your ratings sir, and fine job with your articles it’s really good reading material. Thank you.
I few things missed with some of the players. The 3 most outstanding players tonight were … Said B, and our 2 centre-back giants. There certainly were outstanding.
Your remarks about Said B, is way off sir. He ran his heart out, was everywhere and by himself constructed most of our attacks. Have a look again, and maybe check out his miles on the pitch tonight.
The 2 Moyes pets, Jarrod and Fornals again failed to impress, and rightfully subbed.
Haller continues to frustrate all, even the commentators.
Nonetheless, mixing good with bad … we won tonight thru a magnificent Soucek goal.
Now a good, well deserved break for all until next FA cup match. Coyi. God bless West Ham.
Every score I see for Haller seems to be desperate hope rather than actual achievement – sorry mate. If we had a real centre forward for that past month – we would be millionaires Rodders!
Not sure why we have to discuss Haller every game. I rate on what I see and thought he was more involved tonight
Great team result – will not quibble with the scores – 5 points from 3 games in 6 days is good going
Well done Moysie and the boys – and to Hugh for keeping the faith and keeping us informed – now we can relax for a week and the players can get a well deserved rest
COYI
I have been very critical of Ogbonna over recent seasons. Too much pulling and pushing in the box for my liking. He seems to have cut a fair bit of that from his game and was superb tonight. Very impressed with him and also with Dawson. He has surprised me these last 2 games. I do however fail to see all the hype and constant praise and excuses being made for Benahrama. Gives it away way to much and I can see why Moyes was weary of signing him. Just reminds me so much of Anderson. I do still prefer Fornals over him every time. I know Fornals does miss alot and looses it but at least he runs and runs. Would like to see Fornals more central and hopefully if we get King that may happen. King Fornals Bowen behind Antonio. Fantastic result against a team we normally struggle against. Great way to start the new year and long may it continue.
I am with you Chunk. Fornals no more wants to play a defensive game than Lanzini or Benrhama, but he does. Benrhama coughed the ball up too many times, really a mixed blessing. I would take King on loan and let him show he can still strike.
Make you about right with the ratings, although:
Back 4 all deserved 7+
Rice and Soucek 8s as they were outnumbered
Benrharma shows real promise and his contribution was evident
Fornals… not so much
Bowen, love the endeavour, but product,,,?
Haller, just seems to want to avoid injury
Lanzini – just want to see him with more time to play
Yarmo – disappointed with his recent form, but class player on his day
Antonio – seems to scare defences into mistakes…
Haller had a decent first half and never came back after the break. 5
Antonio changed the dynamic, held and distributed the ball. 7
Fornals helped shut Everton’s left side down. 7->6 (-1 for stuffing the header)
The rest I agree with.
