Tonight’s game cannot come fast enough for West Ham after their 1 – 2 loss at the weekend against the modest opposition of Charlton Athletic.
Gifting the Addicks two goals is something that Nuno’s side cannot afford to repeat and the Hammers boss looks to put that terrible start to the home campaign behind him with an albeit challenging Carabao Cup away fixture at St Mary’s.
Supporters will be looking for a response from the players and for Nuno Espírito Santo to send out his players in their best positions against Southampton tonight. It may ‘only’ be the Carabao Cup but make no mistake, Nuno is under scrutiny and a win would bolster morale and reduce the pressure on West Ham’s manager who needs to show greater creativity, goal threat and solidity at the back when going toe to toe with one of the Championship’s title contenders.

It was a good game to have a look at the youngster, and what a display they put on. Attacking, defendig,togetherness,even Kilman had a good game.

Halftime. Just before Ajala scored, I was thinking this is the kind of WHU football team I want to see playing at LS. I am talking about the style of football of the youngsters, blended with the likes of Piroe.
I think this style of U21 quicker passing football is not easy for opponents to cope with. Will not beat the top teams maybe, but this kind of team & footballing style has potential and room to grow. Engels, Solomon will all fit in quite neatly into this style of football as well, while normally NES is shoe horning players into a system of his.
If NES was trying to make a point about not having enough players and he was sick of hearing everybody say use some of the benchwarmers, it has blown up in his face.
Why is Arieola not in the squad, do you know if he’s downed tools or another one who doesn’t fit anymore
Well we will all see if our young players are good enough tonight the top academy players at all clubs get there chance but only a few really good ones make the standard required

For a manger who usually worries more about losing than setting us up to win that is a shocking selection, hardly seems intended to go on a cup run. While the inclusion of Kilman is only likely to destroy any confidence and positivity the academy lads would get f om being given a chance to show what they’re about.
