A look ahead: Where could we be by Wednesday night?

|

THEBADGEYesterday’s results in the Premier League did little to harm the Hammers position although Spurs being held at home by manager-less West Brom wasn’t the best.

Palace squeezed out a late win against Stoke to close things up a bit but with second off bottom Swansea drawing with Bournemouth things remained the same as far as we’re concerned in relation to the Welsh outfit.

There’s a busy old week with a full programme of games going ahead on Tuesday and Wednesday and so long as we win at Everton on Wednesday night we could be looking up rather than down by the end of the midweek programme.

Today Southampton meet Everton at St Mary’s with the teams  on 13 and 12 points apiece so whatever happens we could become beneficiaries later in the week.

Brighton – after a battling performance at Old Trafford yesterday – meet Palace on on the south coast (Tues) with three points looking likely.

Anther key battle on Tuesday will be the WBA v Newcastle game. The Geordies are on the slide after a decent start and are stranded on 14 points following four defeats on the bounce.

A Hammers win at Goodison will take us onto 13 points and I’m counting on Saints beating them today, Brighton beating Palace (Tues), Spurs beating Leicester (Tues), West Brom and Newcastle sharing the points (Tues), Man City beating Saints on Wednesday and Liverpool winning at Stoke on the same night.

Such a set of results could even see us move into 15th place (although goal difference could  intervene of course) and give us a little shot of confidence ahead of that upcoming run of really difficult games.

Even though Everton have been poor, it is still not an easy place to go, if the fans get behind the team, like us they are a passionate bunch and Watford who played them off the park for most of the game, then got blitzed once they got their tails up losing 3 2, if Unsworth is still in charge I fancy our chances of some kind of result and we will have had more rest following our good performance than they will also which could play into our hands, in this league nothing is a given, its even possible we might do well in our tougher games than expected and lose to Everton who knows, I will settle again for an improved performance but am hoping for a lot better COYI !!!
