THE problem West Ham United face in trimming their squad is the huge salary structure that has evolved over three recent manager eras and player acquisitions at the club. Tim Steidten, Julen Lopetegui and Graham Potter all followed David Moyes and left their own legacy of recruits who, combined, have made for a disjoined squad.
As the club are now finding out to their cost, several players on inordinately long contracts or huge salaries are proving immensely difficult to shift. The ‘Danny Ings‘ effect.
After all, if you were Maximilian Kilman, offered a seven year contract in 2024 ad reportedly on £100,000 a week, why would you choose to quit the club and say goodbye to almost £5 million a year by doing so.
The same problem applies to ‘want-aways’ Todibo and Wan Bissaka.
The defender, at least, looks to have suitors queueing up to try and pitch for his attention. West Ham’s demand of £25 million seems more reasonable than the player’s wages of not much less than Kidman’s and again a seven year contract guarantees him multi millionaire status. Tough for the likes of Aston Villa to get near enticing him away, for should the irons secure promotion at the first attempt then Wan Bissaka would kiss goodbye to about £8 million by quitting London stadium.
However the72.co.uk suggest Fulham will be the latest side to try:
“Premier League club targeting loan-to-buy deal for West Ham man as transfer interest steps up..Wan-Bissaka is also a target for Fulham. The Cottagers are eyeing a slightly different deal too, as they explore the possibility of a loan-to-buy move for the right-back, potentially including an initial £2m loan fee.”
Covering the players wages will no doubt be the issue causing Koppen to burn the midnight oil this summer: Wan Bissaka’s leaving of Manchester United was no less complicated and took Steidten weeks to accomplish. However, the report has an upbeat note for West Ham’s beleaguered accountants, suggesting that the expensive defender will be off the books come 2nd September;
“A matter of when Aaron Wan-Bissaka leaves West Ham, not if…It might have been expected that Wan-Bissaka’s future would be sorted by now. The former Manchester United man has no intention of staying at West Ham for their Championship push and has had no shortage of Premier League interest.”
Which will come as a big relief with his budget-friendly replacement Joel Veltman already at the club.
Most of these stories are rubbish the reported wages they on is all wrong as they all agreed to a 50% pay cut if we got relegated which we managed in case anyone missed it. And that should make getting deals for the wantaways easier unless nobody wants you at any price.

there doesn’t really seem to be any point in a loan to buy (optional) for us as we’d still possibly have to replace the player and/or in that position for this season and then we’d be in exactly the same position in a years time on the return of the same player who apparently doesn’t want to play for us now , the worst we should be accepting is an obligation to buy with hopefully a loan fee (i know , i’m a dreamer) , we also need to set them and us an earlier deadline date/time that’s not 2 hours before the closure of the transfer window otherwise they have to stay and play whatever (yep in a dream world again) x
