Roma’s transfer manoeuvring around West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville transfer has reached a point where the logic practically defies itself!
According to reports, Roma have launched a late, determined attempt to hijack Summerville’s move, with Gian Piero Gasperini personally calling the Dutch winger to sell the club’s project.
It’s a bold move, but boldness without financial conviction rarely wins transfer battles.
Al‑Hilal have already agreed a £60m package with West Ham, including £55m paid upfront, a figure that signals intent, clarity, and zero hesitation.
Roma’s counter?
A £39m offer plus add‑ons. Competitive in isolation, but nowhere near the level required to disrupt Al-Hilal who are already deep into negotiations.
Here’s the key point, following on from my article earlier, Roma are reportedly also now exploring a deal for Axel Disasi, a defender who Chelsea value at £25m. Ironic isn’t it!?

If they genuinely have the financial muscle to also chase Axel Disasi, then matching Al‑Hilal’s bid for Summerville is not only possible, it’s strategically obvious.They can spend big, they’re simply choosing not to spend big on Summerville.
And that’s the contradiction.
You don’t chase Disasi unless you’re ready to operate in the upper tier of the market.
You don’t chase Summerville unless you’re ready to compete with clubs who do exactly that.
Roma are trying to play both games at once, but refusing to match the rate for the player they’re most desperate to convince. If Roma truly believe Summerville is central to Gasperini’s rebuild, then the solution is brutally simple. Increase the offer. Match Al‑Hilal. Anything less is posturing.
Transfers aren’t won with desire, they’re won with decisive financial action.
Is it possible that Roma still think that Sullivan is in charge?
If Roma are playing a cunning game, it may well backfire on both Roma and Summerville. There may well be tears.
What’s the worse that could happen?
Summerville remaining a West Ham player, as he can’t set his own transfer fee 🤔
I hope we do not sell to Roma unless they match Hi-Hilal’s offer. Summerville must understand we are allowing him to leave, but at the same time we want as much as we can get to rebuild and pay off debts.

That’s really weird logic on Summerville/Disasi – because they are looking at two players means they can afford more for one? Don’t make sense tbh and Italian clubs are always trying to get something for nothing so I doubt they will be offering more than 10-15k for Disasi anyway.
