Ajeti grabs winner and raises lack of trust issue

|

Albian Ajeti took no time in making his feelings clear after scoring a late winner on his first appearance in a Celtic shirt against Dundee United.

The former Hammer snatched a late winner and paid back part of the small fee the Bhoys have found for him and immediately pointed out the reasons why by comparing his new manager Neil Lennon and West ham boss David Moyes.

There have been many conspiracy theories over why he wasn’t given his chance by Moyes including one alleging that the pair had been involved in a training ground row.

But once he was given his chance in the Celtic shirt he showed what he might have been about – given an opportunity at the London Stadium – and wasn’t slow to take a pop at the Hammers boss.

He had previously declared that he had little chance to show what he’s about soon after joining the Parkhead outfit but yesterday he was clearly ready to come straight to the point.

“I was really motivated to get back on the pitch – it was not easy for me last year, so I am really appreciating every minute I am playing here,”he told Celtic TV.

“I think if you are happy wherever you are, you will always be successful.”

“The difference between West Ham and here is that I feel the trust from the gaffer,” the Daily Record also quote Ajeti as saying.

“He’s given me my confidence back and for a striker it’s important to feel that and have a good relationship with the manager.”

West Ham fans may well be left scratching their heads if Ajeti goes on to be a star for Celtic – something that Lennon feels could happen.

“Albian did really well, even in his hold-up play when he came on, and he did really well to keep the ball alive with the header back to Odsonne, and he’s latched on to it and it’s a great finish for us and a great finish for him because strikers always want to make an early impact when they come to the club,” he told the club’s official website.

“We’re just trying to get him up to speed as quickly as we can because we think he’s going to be an asset and he’s proved that today.

“He’s a good finisher. He had a great time of it at Basel, not so much at West Ham, but that happens, and he’s come in – it’s a new lease of life for him and he’ll get a real buzz out of what he did today.”

He would probably score in the Championship which is similar to the Scottish Premier standard. Not good enough for the Premiership at all.

    • David Coull says:

My gran who is 87 could probably score 25 goals a season in the Scottish Prem. A joke division. Ajeti simply wasn’t good enough

  • Jackson Brodie says:

Well that is no surprise! MOYES never played him, never gave him a chance. I hope the lad goes on to do really well. The players MOYES is allegedly talking about selling will mean another relegation battle this year. Don get rid of HUGILL they will need him

I hope that GOLD, SULLIVAN and BRADY read this post!

We have to always remember here that Celtic play teams that, generally, would struggle to stay in the English Championship. So success with Celtic looks very different to success in the Premiership. Personally, I think he has probably found his level. Good luck to him. But success with Celtic doesn’t mean Moyes messed up.

Sadly, didn’t we know this would happen?
His record before coming to WH, was … many goals. He is still young, and cannot be over the hill.
Therefore he still has goals in him.
Well says a lot about WH and the 2 managers who could not develop him, and play him when the opportunity came … which was all over last season esp when Haller got cold.
And on top of that we lost millions in the sale.
My goodness, West Ham …. really. I hope we dont do the same to Grady, Nathan H, Josh C, and Xander.
Come on West Ham. We look really bad again?

Poor deal, PL too big a jump for him at this stage, will probably get more confident and improve with the level of defending up there

  • GaryD says:

Happy for him. Why he never had a real run when we were desperate for a striker will remain a mystery.
Hope he becomes a Bhoys legend.

  • Sir Trev says:

Good luck to the lad, he has found his level. Celtic would be a bottom end Prem side. Their opposition would be bottom championship clubs, if that. Let’s face it if we played him over Antonio as an out and out striker, would he have got 8 goals in 6 games? I think not.

Perhaps he wasn’t Premiership level. If it comes down to opinions then I would prefer to take that of someone who’s been in the game, at the highest, level for many years.

  • The Cat says:

I was pleased for him scoring and that he can now get his career back on track, but it was obvious that him scoring was going to be a stick used by those who don’t really like Moyes to have a go at him.
Let’s not forget, that Ajeti was a Pellegrini signing that “Pellegrini” himself had little or no belief in him being able to do the Bizzo in the Premiership… So to blame Moyes for that fact is a little Cheap.
Let’s be honest Ajeti would NEVER have kept us in the Premiership. As some have suggested already… he has probably found his level. That’s all really.
