“All but done” | West Ham’s transfer business gathers pace

With the new season kicking off tomorrow it is evident that the transfer business West Ham needed to complete is slowly, but surely, getting done.

Fan and media attention may be focussed on new signings – with latest arrival Arne Engels hopefully due to be unveiled next – but equally important is the club’s ability to off load those ‘want-aways‘ and players deemed surplus to requirements for the Championship campaign.

After a stellar first season, Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s West Ham career became a monumental disappointment as his lukewarm performances last year contrasted hugely with his debut campaign that quite rightly earned him the HOTY award.

The controversy over his ‘overstaying’ with DR Congo’s qualification celebrations seemed the last straw and both he and Nuno appeared to have agreed on one thing only – that his time at the club needed to be over.

After the protracted negotiations to exit his Manchester United contract that seemed to last all summer in ’24, it has come as something of a surprise to hear that Wan-Bissaka has already agreed personal terms for an exit:

Another feather in Koppen’s cap then, flogging an unwanted Wan Bissaka for a profit after a falling out with his manager.

He’s on the books at about £9 million after amortisation, so a nice healthy profit will make the deal feel a little less of a disappointing end to Wan Bissaka’s West Ham career.
