West Ham have been showcasing new Assistant Head Coach Pablo Sanz via social media channels as the Hammers’ charm offensive continues following the appointment of Julen Lopetegui.
Clearly, Sanz is Lopetegui’s right-hand man, and during his interview with West Ham’s official site, he describes Lopetegui as his boss, friend, coach, brother, and family. While this is many Hammers fans’ first introduction to the Spanish head coach’s backroom team, it’s apparent that he and Sanz are particularly close.
The 50-year-old assistant is being labelled as Lopetegui’s most trusted ally in football, dating back to the 1990s when they were both on the books at FC Barcelona.
Sanz gave a frank and honest interview where he outlined the composition of ‘Team Lopetegui’: “There are six people in Julen’s staff, and we are here to help him manage the team, make team talks, and form the training sessions. We want Julen to be comfortable with us doing our job.
“I was a football player at Barcelona, and when Johan Cruyff arrived, he changed the mentality for everyone. It was an important time when I think football changed, and as a coach, you have to know your players and how to manage the team. It is very important to know the players and to be able to implement a philosophy, which is what we’re looking to do.
“I have worked with Julen for ten years, but I have known him for nearly 30. I played with him at Rayo Vallecano, and for me, Julen is my boss, my coach, my friend, and my brother. I know a lot about Julen, and this is very important when we work together at this club.”
West ham are now showing intent and we mean business! We are buying players that are young and ambitious and have bought into Lopeteguis ambition of making west ham a top four champions league team. Let’s back our new manager and coaches and steinden to show the premier league the real west ham united. The hammers are back and we mean to make a lot of noise and prove that we are truly MASSIVE!!! COYI
Nice try but let’s not push boat out to far and add pressure that’s not needed.
If it’s possible to reclaim a position in Europe it would be a start.
Everything I am seeing from West Ham is so refreshing.
We are moving to a different level….. and I’ve supported the club from 1974.
We’re not far out of the big six by revenue, definitely seventh. It’s time we started punching our full weight.
Not true. According to Deloittes, Newcastle were 7th. and we were 8th. in revenue generation and now that Villa have added Champions League income to their pot we will probably drop to 9th. Last season our league finishing position matched our revenue position.
Sounds different to the last mans coaching style and how he dealt with his staff…… very refreshing indeed
