Big Kanté and Magassa update as report claim both are up for sale | West Ham Exclusive

In view of West Ham’s lame draw yesterday against a modest Burnley side, few would expect the Irons’ threadbare squad to be the subject of further depletion, with holes already being filled with academy players; 5 in the squad or on the bench yesterday shows how thinly stretched the Hammers are.

Reports today from journalist Alan Nixon have surprised many fans, claiming that West Ham are open to offers for Mohamadou Kante and Songoutou Magassa. Magassa’s name doesn’t raise too many eyebrows, he’s been on the fringes and linked with moves for weeks, but Kante’s inclusion in the rumoured ‘available’ list has stunned supporters.

Magassa looks likely to follow Freddie Potts out of the door

And understandably so.

The 20‑year‑old midfielder has been involved in both of West Ham’s games this season, already producing two assists and showing exactly why Nuno Espírito Santo rates him so highly. Kante signed a long‑term deal last year keeping him at the club until 2031, a clear signal that West Ham see him as part of their future core.

With Freddie Potts already gone, Edson Álvarez likely departing, Magassa expected to follow, and Tomáš Souček sidelined through injury, the idea of selling Kante now feels borderline illogical. Even Nixon’s report- which has stirred plenty of debate – has left fans wondering whether this is genuine movement or simply transfer‑window noise.

To cut through the speculation, Claret and Hugh contacted one of our trusted transfer sources this evening, and the response was exactly what anxious supporters needed.

When asked directly whether Kante was staying, the reply was a resounding, unequivocal “yes.” No hesitation. No caveats. Just yes.

Behind the scenes, Kante is viewed as a cornerstone of the rebuild, a player with huge potential, a growing creative output, and the versatility Nuno demands in a transitional midfield. While interest from France earlier in the window was genuine, West Ham’s stance has hardened as the squad thins. Selling him now would not only weaken the team but contradict the club’s long‑term planning

So despite Nixon’s report, we beg to differ: The internal message is clear, Kante, at least, is not for sale!

I not sure it’s still a thing these days, or too later in his development but this idea of having Soucek as Kante’s mentor seems a no brainer to me.

My opinion is at present Kante is not quite good enough at the moment. As much as we want to see academy players make it very few actually do. We have let quite a few go in recent years Diagana was the most expensive sale and he has not done much. Potts is a average championship player 10m for him was decent making Engels only 12m time will tell but I think he is a better player.

Let’s get Staveley in as Eddie follows

Is whu going to have time to spend incoming funds or is it all going towards debt.

No smoke without fire. We’ve heard denials like this before only to then see the players get sold a week later.

The Board need to come clean with what’s happening otherwise the goodwill they have to prevent Staveley’s consortium from taking control will very quickly disappear

Would have been much nicer if the headline read “KANTE is not for sale”, but you typical so called lifelong West Ham supporters who always want the best for our club, but always seem to move in the negative and stir the toilet just to earn a few quid for this site, just can’t let things be for a while, patience is a virtue, get behind our club for the season and help us get promoted

Then why print this BS, just so you can get a few clicks, as you often do.

Just ask your “trusted source” how long has Negative Nuno got? he has to go

  • Ray says:

IF it turns out Kante is up for sale, that suggests something far more critical to the clubs’ future is causing concern at board level, something financial. Hopefully that is not the case.
