Dimitri Payet:
Once on track to become a West Ham hero, Payet’s legacy took a hit when he went on strike in 2017. Now 36, he has moved to Brazilian club Vasco da Gama after being released by Marseille.
Jose Fonte:
Signed in 2017 during one of our customary relegation scares, Fonte’s West Ham stint didn’t go as planned. After spells in China and Lille, he has now ended up at Braga at the age of 39.
Alex Song:
From being a key player at one stage back in 2014, his form then fell off a cliff. Song’s journey led him to end up playing for Djiboutian side Arta/Solar7 since November 2020, where he is apparently a cult hero.
Carl Jenkinson:
After injuries disrupted his West Ham career, Jenkinson ventured to Australia, now playing for A-League side Newcastle Jets after a loan at Melbourne City.
Pablo Barrera:
A 2010 signing, who made a name for himself by running very fast in a straight line, Barrera returned to Mexico after West Ham’s relegation and currently plays for Liga MX side Queretaro at the age of 36.
Freddie Sears:
Once a promising striker (he scored on his debut), Sears returned to Colchester in 2021 after impressing at Ipswich, illustrating once again the unpredictable nature of football careers.
Jonathan Calleri:
Having once tried to score a rabona when presented with a tap-in at Stoke (he missed), Calleri’s time at West Ham was disappointing even by the low standard of strikers we have signed over the years. Calleri found success at Sao Paulo, scoring 41 goals in 110 appearances for the Brazilian club..Currently earning his wages on the subs bench
Ruud Boffin:
The goalkeeper, who played just once for West Ham, has had a lasting career in Turkey, even scoring a direct free-kick for Eskisehirspor in 2016.
Nicky Maynard:
After a brief stint at West Ham, Maynard had a varied career with several clubs, currently playing for mighty Winsford Town in Cheshire League Two at the age of 35
Freddie Sears now at Dagenham & Redbridge
