Board lovers? Board haters? The Moyes issue has nothing to do with that but it could do in three games time!

|

Conspiracy theories are everywhere…and whoever you listen to, or whichever website or newspaper you read, there’s apparently a West Ham agenda!

Yeah we have one – we want a successful West Ham team that’s going places but of course that’s too simple for many who always want to believe the worst.

The latest theory doing the rounds is that the board friendly media (whatever that means)  are orchestrating a ‘Moyes Out’ campaign in order to deflect  flak which should be continually directed at the board.

Stupid, ignorant and delusional are the first three words that come to mind…there are others but not usable in a family friendly website.

Let me tell you why :

O Several Twitter polls over up to 30k voting have shown an overwhelming majority want him out – these are not being run by board lovers!

O If David Moyes fails in his mission to save the club from relegation he will be long gone leaving the board to take everything that’s coming at them for appointing him in the first place.

It’s an utterly ludicrous suggestion born of a dislike for the board over and above, even, the very real prospect of another relegation – the only issue which should be addressed at this moment.

In a word it’s nonsense, illogical and off the scale to the point of stupidity.

When Moyes was appointed with all the talk of getting the squad fit etc it sounded good. Eventually we began to climb to a position of safety but that has fallen away and left us in desperate straits.

Here is a man also on a six month contract for goodness sake whose only brief was to achieve the survival objective, calling out players publicly and  producing the same defensive system game after game. He’s acting like a long term Alex Ferguson type figure!

Now – unless something changes today at training and however much we may disapprove of Andy Carroll’s behaviour – he has failed to make it up with a striker who can be a game changer on Saturday at Leicester.

We don’t condone Carrol’s behaviour in anyway despite feeling some sympathy for his exclusion on Saturday but there’s a bigger picture than even that this weekend.

If Moyes gets no apology today surely the attitude should be, with possibly just three games of his reign left: “Ok mate, we don’t like each other but let’s now be professional and get a result at Leicester – the rest can wait until the end of the season.”

Quite apart from anything else Moyes needs all the help he can get because if he goes down it will surely be career over!

If he fails, the board can prepare themselves for even more protests and campaigns than they have faced so far as he was their appointment.

The same will happen if he succeeds and they don’t sack him because the general opinion everywhere is that he is not the right man for us.

So for God’s sake let’s hear no more about agendas when in reality they are merely opinions. If we had an agenda we would be running a campaign against him …and with three games left how utterly stupid would it be to sack him anyway.

Ok on we go and for the record I’m predicting a Hammers win on Saturday and once safe this summer I would want to thank him and say farewell.

One other point who knows if he wants to stay anyway after what he is seen and now suffering at the London Stadium?

My impression is that he has found the ‘West Ham experience’ not quite what he expected- putting it mildly. Although we only see the tip of the iceberg a lot of fans & many outside observers believe there are deep deep problems in many areas of the club. This makes it difficult for me to judge how much of the blame we pin on Moyes if we go down, or how much credit to give him if we stay up. I am going for let’s try to close ranks behind the team for another 10 days or so. As you say it seems certain he will be sacked if we go down so it could still become a pointless exercise to point out all the reasons for sacking him now.

  • Hammer64 says:

I meant pointless to go through the arguments at this point. I would have thought nobody can seriously be talking about sacking him with three games to go.

If Moyes decides to go out to defend in the final three games
we will be relying on other teams results. He is showing the
opposition to much respect. We are capable of beating any side with the right approach.
Arnautovic with Hernandez, 2 wide wingers , push forward will get results.
We have a history of keep playing players who don’t perform
Mario is a prime example. It’s no wonder our keepers and defence make so many mistakes giving the opposition so much possession. Hernandez scores all his goals in the box
why is he on the pitch when the manager decides to put Arnautovic as a lone striker.
We nearly lost to Stoke trying to defend and grab a win. Moyes needs to change tact and play the West Ham way otherwise relegation could become reality

Needs to go now not being brave but can you see any difference from slav to moyes? Only that slav is a great guy as for knowledge working with a squad our size no difference. Pearce can easily finish the season on his own his got enough experience and certainly wouldn’t do any worse than the clown moyes has done it’s not even a gamble then we can if the board doesn’t sell up like most fans want they can then interview young top coaches who have a good cv. One that doesn’t look like moyes one. To be fair if it was moyes and not Pearce suggesting arnie plays as a striker then that’s a great move except now his left up front on his own and even tracks back defending when he should be given help attacking the goal. Sack him at such a crucial time in the season? You got to be kidding me. All it will do is create more uncertainty and disruption which we don’t need at this time.

Another aspect that needs looking at after we secure survival is whether the set up of having a managerial team of four ex managers (Moyes, Psycho, Irvine and McKinley) is workable – I like Psycho who seems to be good with the players but unfortunately his managerial record is not that great (I remember him managing Man City and kicking his toy teddy bear after an away defeat at Wigan)

PS Not sure if McKinley is really an ex-manager – I know he had a spell as caretaker at Sunderland

Well , if we don’t win and only come away with a point it’s still not game over .
Surely we must play to Win and either celebrate the win or moan about the loss . We can’t have it both ways as seems the general Attitude lately . The job description was very clear
“ keep us up “ . So far we are still up . And untill we are down we shall remain “ up “ .
A bit of Irish logic there lads , but nevertheless true . The importance of squad / team unity is a huge issue during these closing games of a really deeply bruising season . We have suffered over the past two seasons a Stadium move and the problems therein , a massive none ending injury list and internal bleeding . I personally have no reason to blame Moyes for all that crap . Wheather he is the right man to take us forward is a completely different issue and to address that subject now with three games remaining is to my mind ludicrous .
The media and certain writers on this forum have had and are having a field day at the possible expense of our Survival in the Premiership . STUPIDITY . One thing is for sure , we are a better team and a bigger threat with Carroll . I know it , the fans know it , Moyes knows it and the team knows it . Time to stop behaving like kids and fight for our lives as a unit . Who knows what the summer may bring ? , the owners may very well surprise us with a few very good sighnings and give Moyes something to work with . Don’t forget that He inherited a wreck and is trying to get it through the MOT .

amusing how some of the same people calling for moyes to be ousted are the same people that were calling for him to replace allardyce just a few short years ago. the anti board talk has now been replaced with anti moyes talk. the same people who have expressed a dislike for andy carroll and wanted to get rid of him are now up in arms that hes not playing. why? because it suits the anti moyes agenda. scapegoatism. were having a bad season. some of our best players injured, antonio, lanzini, carroll etc. its not rocket science. moyes inherited a potential train wreck and is trying to keep us on the tracks. we now have a top team of back room staff all appointed by moyes and all working their socks off. what we need right now with 3 games to go is for the sabotage squad to stop trying to derail us. at least lay off it at least until the end of the season. i seem to remember trevor brooking asking for that not so long ago.

  • mooro66uk says:

We all know he didn’t inherit the greatest squad but that is absolutely no excuse for his extremely defensive set-ups and tactics. Sometimes we have to be a little more defensive minded, but to do it every game despite playing at home against the likes of Stoke is simply a severe lack of foresight and imagination. It is the tactics of fear. Of not losing at the cost of not trying to win. And at the end of the day we consistently ship 3 or 4 goals so it’s not working anyway. I’m not advocating a completely gung-ho approach but please let’s have a bit of aggression and attacking positivity. Watching Arnies’ enthusiasm and confidence gradually ebb away and turn to frustration as he battles manfully, completely isolated, every game is heartbreaking. Give it a go with 2 up top even if it means we go to a flat back four cos five ain’t working is it? COYI.

  • Hammer64 says:

West Ham v Stoke Possession 63 Shots 18 on goal 6
    Man C v West Ham possession 75 shots 19 on goal 8

Guardiola so defensive minded. Who would have thought it?

  • jimbo says:

Moyes inherited the most unbalanced squad in the PL and this has impacted upon his options. We moan about being defensive but like it or not, Carroll and Chic are not the most mobile strikers. I hear calls of we need someone to hold it up. For what? Who in midfield is likely to come sprinting through alongside the striker and run in on goal? Nobes, Chek or Mario? You’re having a laugh. Fact is we’ve only Arnie who is mobile and strong up top when Antonio is injured.
With no legs in midfield, we need five to prevent teams overrunning us there. Again here weve only Lanzini who can play a killer pass. But he cannot tackle or defend. No balance again. Arthur can run but is a liability defensively. No balance.
At the back we have no pace so need five.
Don’t get me started on the keepers!
So I’ve some sympathy for Moyes. Unless he can pick 12 he cannot put out a balanced side. And we are in this position because of Slav and the owners. They hardly backed Moyes in January, although judging by the purchase he did make, he can’t be trusted with the cheque book anyway.
So let’s get to the end of the season, stay in the PL and then replace the manager, the owners and most of the squad!!!!

I’m glad everyone thinks it’s going so swimmingly.
