Bonds Exclusive: Irons hero a Boleyn regular again

|

full_Bonds_Billy_781226CsportWest Ham’s favourite son Billy Bonds has become a West Ham regular again …and his grandchildren are the club’s newest fans.

Billy will be the next in line to appear on the ClaretandHugh interview section of  MoorethanJustaPodcast but in the meantime he has spoken about all things Irons to us exclusively.

And he was still  fed up that he’d been unable to get the match against Newcastle because of the horrendous traffic problem revealing: “We got to Canning Town and were totally gridlocked.

“We weren’t going anywhere so we turned round and caught the second half on the television. They really did look a decent team although that’s as poor a Newcastle team as I’ve seen.”

Bonzo reckons though that the Irons have a real chance at Manchester City tomorrow (Sat) saying: “You really can’t look at form in football. It doesn’t work like that and at around 10/1 we look a bet.

“Victor Moses was outstanding and Payet is a serious player. With our counter attacking game we can go up there and get something.

“It’s very early days of course but to have seen Slaven mastermind a win at Liverpool is terrific. That’s something I never achieved up there although this side of Brendan Rodgers’ is nowhere near as good as the Liverpool teams we played.

That takes nothing away though – it was a fabulous performance to win by three – as our very odd start to the season continues.”

He’s enjoying watching the team and will be there for the game against Norwich City saying: “The club are being very good to us and I love getting the grandchildren over there with the wife. ”

And he knows that Slaven “won’t be getting carried away with fifth place” saying: “We’ve only had a handful of games but I do like what I’ve been seeing. It looks promising.”

  • Boys of 66 says:

Terrific news Bonzo is back in the fold.Well happy he is back watching us regularly. Now this guy is an Irons Legend in the true sense of the word! 😉

  • sleepswithdafishes says:

Legend is the most overused word in football, but as Boys says Billy Bonds is the ultimate in legends ( along with Moore of course ). A great player great captain great man. Incredibly under-rated by the England team. Tha fact that he was ignored by England is the main reason I haven’t been at all passionate about the England team since 1974.
Welcome back home. Well done west ham!

Criminal that Bonzo never played for england ???
And yes more than a legend ,
    C&B blood !!!!!!!
Can’t praise the man high enough !!
Great memories of the man, watched him from day one !
    Tough but fair !
Loved it when he grabbed Bremner by the throat after a nasty tackle on one of his boys at u.p. ( sh*t himself ) . That’s how you look after you,re players noble !!!
No shinpads neither !! And socks rolled down !!!!
English !!!! It was an embarrassment for a player to dive in the old days ! Real men !!!!!
Not like some on show today !!!!! English as well as foreigners !!!!
Young at man u comes to mind !!!! Cheating puff !!!!!

Great to have you back bonzo ,

    • sleepswithdafishes says:

Yep tough but fair. Loved the way he always got the ball even if the man got in the way. As opposed to Hunter or Storey or Harris who blatantly took out the man without even considering the ball.
I remember him getting chopped down by a young John Matthews who was trying to show how tough he was. He never did that again lol. Bonds simply waited his moment and let him know who the boss was.

  • Sams P45 says:

Great news to know he is back & bringing his grandkids along.Im a little too young to remember much of Moore so Bonzo has always been my top man as a kid & growing up 😉

  • Dainon says:

I hope Bonzo can have a stand named after him at the OS, would be a fitting tribute to my favorite Hammer of all time – His records will prob never be beaten and I would like to see him properly honoured during his lifetime … far to many are celebrated after they pass away

Hugh, do you know if there are plans for anything to celebrate Mr Bonds at the OS ?

  • johnboy says:

Well said bubs, having the heart & the souls of the club through the years like Bonzo back again is so fantastic & gives a real feeling of togetherness again.Seems so far removed from the empty feeling we had for the last couple of years.

  • PennsylvaniaHammer says:

Absolute legend. Was lucky enough to bump into him once when I was out and about. Had a chat, signed something for me, genuinely great guy.

  • WestGoaHam says:

I remember the crunching sliding tackles into the side boardings . My favourite player. Also proper family man and gentleman.
