Bowen gets the dressing room treatment

|

Jarrod Bowen has had a few of the senior professionals on his back following his arrival at the clubs.

Dressing room antics towards the new kid on the block are par for the course at every club but it seems they may be a little less demanding  on the ‘victim’ at Rush Green.

And to be fair it doesn’t seem to have done the new signing too much harm based on his first performances in the claret and blue.

The former Hull man has had his character tested in a big way as the lads treat him as the gofor of the place making sure he carries put the most menial tasks without complaining at the treatment he is receiving.

This far there have been no issues with Jarrod at all as he has got on with life at his new club in the way skipper Nobes would have hoped and expected.

Writing in his London Evening Standard column at https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/mark-noble-column-west-ham-jarrod-bowen-transfer-news-a4380291.html the skipper said: “Jarrod is a quiet boy but — as you can perhaps imagine — myself, Aaron Cresswell and Robert Snodgrass haven’t left him alone.

That’s just part and parcel of being a new boy at this club and it’s a test of his character. Clothes, appearance, lifestyle, have all come under the spotlight and we’ve had him serving us with coffees every morning before training. It’s all light-hearted but there is a point to it all.

I remember Don Hutchison was relentless when I was a young kid, hammering me for this and that. One day, when brave enough, I said: “Hutch, what’s your problem? Why are you ‘on’ me so much?’

He replied: “Mark, it’s because I like and respect you. If I had no time for you, I wouldn’t do it.”

That has always stuck with me and I made sure I added that to my repertoire when I became a senior figure.”
