Finally it seems that there is momentum behind transfer interest in West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville.
Whether it is due to the existence of the reported 27th July ‘sundown’ condition within the release clause itself is unclear but this evening AC Roma appear to have made a bid which comes tantalisingly close to West Ham’s £40 million requirement for the winger’s signature.
According to sportwitness.co.uk’s claim this afternoon, the deal is on the cusp:
“€46m offer now on the table for West Ham star – Player has approved transfer already”
However that is still about half a million short of West Ham’s reported £40 million demand for Summerville’s transfer to proceed. Touching distance though and not something you’d expect to derail a move. What had been the problem was the player’s wage demands with Summerville reportedly seeking €6m a year to move to Serie A, European football and all.
According to the same report:
“The Giallorossi’s [Roma’s] efforts are being buoyed by the fact that the winger has given his approval to the switch. He is impressed by the club’s sporting project.
Roma are therefore hoping to finalise a deal with him. The financial details of an agreement with the West Ham forward are still to be ‘worked out in detail’. But his approval to the move is seen as a major positive, and a step forward for Roma’s chances of getting him.”
On that showing, you’d expect Summerville to become a Roma player next week, highlighting West Ham’s urgent need for a winger replacement inside the summer window – alongside their evident need for a new midfield playmaker following Fernandes’ departure.
Make them pay the full amount, no deals
They have met the asking price, but can they pay it all up front to activate the release clause?
