Brighton victory puts Hammers under win pressure

West Ham need to win against Spurs on Thursday evening to remain in touch with Brighton and Hove Albion who  moved four points clear of us with a 2-1 win over Brentford on Wednesday evening. It means the south coast side now sit in eighth place on 25 points with the Irons in ninth on 25. The Brighton win puts us under win pressure.

The BBC reports that teenager Jack Hinshelwood’s first senior goal helped Brighton come from behind to claim victory over Brentford, who lost top scorer Bryan Mbeumo to injury. The Bees took the lead against the run of play when Mbeumo coolly slotted home a 27th-minute penalty after Jan Paul van Hecke fouled Vitaly Janelt.

Pascal Gross struck a fierce drive past Mark Flekken to equalise for Albion , before Mbeumo departed with a leg injury shortly afterwards. Hinshelwood, 18, showed himself to be a real prospect by clearing ff the line from Yoane Wissa before heading home Gross’ lofted cross to give the hosts only their second Premier League win in nine matches.

Meanwhile our weekend opponents Fulham smashed Nottingham Forest 5-0 and Crystal Palace were beaten at home 2-0 by Bournemouth after the Irons managed just a home draw against Roy Hodgson’s outfit at the weekend at the London Stadium.

Spurs with several injuries won’t be easy but we need to give ourselves a real chance by finding some genuine form as we bid to stay in touch with the top eight.
