Brooking: “Slaven’s desperate for FA Cup”

brooking_1648553aWest Ham legend Trevor Brooking has declared that he reckons  Slaven Bilic is desperate to win the FA Cup as a Boleyn farewell present for the fans.

And icon TB, who scored the famous winning goal  in 1980, insists his old club can triumph in this year’s competition.

He said: “I fancy West Ham for the Cup. You’ve only got to watch them and how they play. Slaven wants it and the players want it. He knows how much in our last season at the Boleyn it will mean for our fans if we win it.

“The FA Cup is obviously special for me. It has lost a little bit of its glamour – but not for Slaven.”

Recalling his special moment 36 years ago he said: “It’s a long time ago now but not one week goes by without someone mentioning it. It might be a cabbie or somebody I meet when I’m out.

“It’s been such a special part of my life that for somebody to say the FA Cup no longer has any significance is nonsense.

“I hope they get through to the final. Then my goal will probably get a few more airings!”

    Yes Trevor Brooking and the 1980 cup winning team who don’t forget we’re in a lower division than their opponents that day but proved that valiant hearts and industrious effort can beat big time Charlie’s who think it’s on a plate. I am reminded of the famous quote by Theodore roosevelt.
    It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat.

      Yeah, reminds me of your Theodore Roosevelt quote yesterday. And brings to mind Macbeth (Shakespeare) “Tomorrow, tomorrow and tomorrow”….So can we expect a flurry of the same Roosevelt quote for other stories? Hope so – it is very universal; and would demonstrate you being on your way to being as much of a prat as me…but, you still have a long, LONG way to go before you even come close, so no backslapping yet, yeah?…Oooh…now where’s my special Easter lippy and powder?

    Slavs not the only one,
    I think every fan wants to get one over Manure and their bent ref and the repay Martinez for his insult to every human being about the tackle on Payet,
    Then we will show class against either Watford or Pardew,
    4th place will go cup in hand with the cup,
    But if not it will have been a great year for all of us and nearly removes 4 years of boredom
