CandH asked key questions by London’s newspaper

|

eveningClaretandHugh was approached early this morning to provide a piece for the London Evening Standard on what sort of points haul we though the Hammers would achieve over the next few games.

We  were also asked for our thoughts on the transfer window and what sort of business we wanted to see done.

Its nice to be becoming regulars in the London evening paper and you can read our view on where the team will be going over the Christmas and New Year period here https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/harry-arter-would-be-ideal-signing-for-west-ham-claret-hugh-preview-the-festive-period-a3725351.html?CMP=ILC-refresh

However, tonight we are wanting to hear from you so please leave your thoughts on the two big questions at this time of the years.

You’ve heard from the players and us – now it’s your turn!

No thank you to Harry Arter. With respect I’m sure we can do better. I would put in a serious bid for Jack Wilsher. Trouble is DS likes a bargain too much and wont put a realistic bid for him that might get accepted.

  • JRS says:

I agree PB61 I like Arter but I don’t think he is what we need. Tho I don’t think Wilshere is leaving Arsenal now either.
But we need creativity even w Lanzini playing it will only make him better. And if he is out we have already none. We need technique & passing ability. I don’t think just buying from PL is the right idea.
A mix yes if we can get a deal on PL players why not but there is talent all over in the Championship few midfiekdsrs I would love James Madisson, David Brooks, Cairney, etc.
Outside the PL Elynoussoui 11 assists AM/RM/CM. Hazma Barry we were linked w £5m could be a shrewd buy creative CM. Felix Klaus tho doubt he would leave in Jan, Miguel Almiron from MLS Paraguayan Intl linked w PL there season is over big creator. All 24 & under w pace talent & creativity.

If I was gonna go for a CB which I don’t think we need in Jan I would go for Adin Flint is height physicality & goal threat. But w 4 fit CBs Burke coming back & Fonte not to mention Cresswell & Kouyate who has been best as a CB for us. Think we are covered till summer when we can look more & Liam Moore & Burke are very similar both can cover RB just Moore is lil more experienced at 24.
We need a Full back more & if we could get Opare for £3m from Ausburg RB but can play LB that would be good deal.

And mainly don’t sell to many players our squad is now 21 counting Masaki with Henry gone & 19th oldest squad in PL & injury prone. So sell 3 players make sure we have replacements first made that mistake in summer.
And if we can send Hart back or loan off no offense to him but he won’t be here in summer & could use his wages & grab Johnstone or get someone like Ward on loan a decent #2 isn’t that hard to find. But our nest GK should be younger.
Harts Loan fee buys us Johnstone & his wages could cover 2 good players easily.

Like many I think Arter is decent perhaps an upgrade on Noble but we should be aiming higher, Arter is also 27 I think so no spring chicken, I am looking forward to seeing who Moyes approves he was always cautious in the market at Everton but the players he signed were usually a very good fit, I can’t remember too many that went wrong although perhaps Everton supporters would have a list ? I really hope we get back on the wagon and pull a win off on Saturday I have my ticket and can’t wait as usual COYI !!!

  • trevbowden says:

Yes a central midfielder, do not let Sakho go especially at fee’s quoted £15 million…he’s possibly our best forward, I don’t understand the problem with playing him…maybe issues , being kept under wraps, and Rice is ahead of Oxford because he’s here, bring Oxford back and play him too.Hart is a strange piece of business, ok he challenges Adrian but will be gone by the end of the season.Personally I like that the club doesn’t just throw money at big players and scours all options….Antonio, Masaku, Cresswell and Byron to name a few. Arthur is now a leading light since his position has changed thanks to the new manger. The steel is hopefully back and with Ginge in the dressing room all’s well. We need to keep him in the club when he decides to hang up his boots…..a warrior in the Pierce mould.

    • JRS says:

Sahko is £12m not even £15m & with only 6mo left might get less.
I do think he is our most rounded striker & his good on the pitch supposedly his we liked in dressing room & by players. Also helps out the U23s.
He wants to play & he was on £32k & they dropped him to £20k but £15k extra on the bench & £30k extra if he starts. and hear they don’t WK t him to start bc £50k & that’s how that number comes about but that’s nothing compared to what Hart earns or even Ayee at £75k etc.
With our squad so thin if they could work things out & give him another year I would. He has scored some crucial goals for us Swansea! And has the pace can hold up link up get in behind.
I think him & Chic would make good partnership & the 10m we saw them at Stoke they linked up well.
If we could add a year contract & sell him in summer if still doesn’t work out it would be the cheaper & safer way to go really. His agent doesn’t help him I dont think.
But he will most likely go & since he is PL proven & has pace PL sides will be keen. Wouldn’t be surprised if Palace came back in for him or West Brom, Swansea or Brighton But I don’t like the idea of selling him to rival clubs bc I could see him doing very well at Palace or Brighton.

Just hope we are Smart & like 32 said Moyes is usually good at recruiting but I just hope bc of our position we don’t get to caught up in PL experience & get older players.
But hopefully him & Henry will do a good job they have worked together well before.

  • Hammerforlife says:

Who would Arter replace? The only point of signing anyone in the January window is if they’re an improvement on what we already have. Arter isn’t.

  • Hammerforlife says:

Arter isn’t an improvement on what we have, so no thanks.

  • Hammerforlife says:

Sorry for duplicate comments, initially told me it couldn’t post the first one. I’ll go now.

  • jimbo says:

Time for Sakho to say goodbye – He is a bad egg and no longer matters if he is our most potent striker or not – He isn’t fit often enough and has a bad attitude. I’d ship Carroll out too and look to replace with one decent striker. Can’t be too greedy as we already have Chic warming the bench.
I reckon two midfielders – One defensive and one creative.
    And finally a right back.
As for suggestions – Not a clue who Moyes has in mind! So how about Carvhalo, Trippier, the Voldermort at Huddersfield and that young Brazilian geezer at Watford? And change from a tenner please!
