Zouma absent for personal reasons

Claret and Hugh can exclusively reveal that West Ham captain Kurt Zouma was absent from today’s match for personal reasons. And sadly his absence did us no favours given the error which saw Konstantinos Mavropanos gift the visitors their equaliser.

It was believed by most before the game that given the issues Kurt has with his knees he had suffered another problem, maybe in training ahead of the game but that is not the case writes Hughie Southon.

He cannot train more than two or three days a week as a result of the problem but Claret and Hugh understands that was not the reason for him not being in the squad for today’s game with the club telling us: “More will come out over the net few days but his absence was due to personal reasons not injury.”

In the meantime the players who were believed likely to be absent from today’s game were all available, not that it helped us get the three points we needed to leap frog Brighton although we are now within one point of them given their defeat by Chelsea.

Next up for the Hammers are the Spuds away on Thursday evening – a game with an 8.15pm kick off and one for which the captain will hopefully  be available.
