Julen Lopetegui will be West Ham’s new head coach next season; however, any announcement will be delayed until David Moyes has officially departed the club.
It is understood that all relevant paperwork has been agreed upon by Lopetegui’s backroom team, and the deal is done. This follows what Claret & Hugh revealed yesterday regarding the Spaniard’s extensive due diligence on the club.
As reported yesterday on C&H, a comprehensive analysis of the club’s playing staff has been conducted over the past few months. ExWHUEmployee also revealed yesterday that the former Madrid boss has been working closely with Tim Steidten to prepare for next season.
This aligns with what C&H discovered from its own sources, suggesting that every area of the West Ham squad has been assessed, leaving no stone unturned in Lopetegui’s analysis.
Not only are some player negotiations at an advanced stage, but we have been informed that pre-season training schedules have also been finalised.
What a breath of fresh air Lopetegui appears to be. The identification of multiple transfer targets whilst working closely with Tim Steidten seems to reveal a progressive cohesion about West Ham which has been sorely lacking under David Moyes. With Flynn Downes and Freddie Potts returning from excellent loan spells plus outstanding Academy products added to the mix it promises to be a very different squad and playing style to the tired, dreary output we have seen in 2024 at the London Stadium. I hope this works.. I was initially thinking that this was a bad idea, but looking into him I think with the right players he can play the attacking football we want!
I pray that Downes signs for Southampton in the next window. He just isn’t good enough for a team challenging for a place in the Premier League’s top six next season as his level is the Championship and no higher……Last season, Downes’s first team league record was 7 starts – 7 defeats!! You can’t see the likes of Newcastle or Aston Villa signing him can you? Downes will never be good enough for West Ham and wouldn’t dislodge the likes of internationals Ward-Prowse, Soucek or Alvarez. Frankly, Johnson played better in midfield when he was given the chance to.

Downes was never played in his correct position under Moyes . Russell Martin knew exactly how to play him . So will lopetegui. Moyes either fancies you or he dosent.
I agree, have never seen it with Downes, two yard passes and nothing else, Lopetegui will soon suss out whether he’s good enough. I’m certain however, that Soucek will be heading for the exit door.

I wish J Lo well for next season and beyond – hopefully the partnership with Tim Steidten will prove to be just what West Ham need to challenge alongside Newcastle and Aston Villa.
