Carroll reveals the trouble with Moyes

|

Andy Carroll has spilled the beans on the problems the Hammers squad suffered under David Moyes last season.

Until Manuel Pellegrini set off on a recent run of results there had been murmurings and at one time outright criticism in some quarters of the decision not to allow the Scot to continue as manager this season.

But the striker’s comments on life under him and assistant boss Stuart Pearce make it clear that would have been a bad decision had the board decided to go down that road.

And it helps to explain some of the quite awful football and results in a long season of struggle the fans suffered for it seems the simple truth is that the squad were unhappy with the way the management team operated.

It seems to have been a world away from the way Manuel Pellegrini and his team operate as the Hammers start to look like a team going places.

Carroll revealed in a Daily Mail interview: “Last season was up and down. We had Stuart Pearce doing sessions, then David Moyes was doing sessions.

“It didn’t really feel right, it didn’t work. The lads weren’t happy.”

Despite only making two appearances under Pellegrini, Carroll has formed a strong opinion on the way the 65 year old operates.

He said: “He (Pellegrini) is a nice fella, a gentleman. He conducts himself well. He’s ruthless. Bang, you’ve done well, but then he won’t play you the next game. You’ve got to respect him.”

Interesting piece of information – I was one of those who thought Moyes should have been given a chance and that having 4 managers (Moyes, Pearce, Irvine etc) might be a good thing

Also might explain a post I read that Arnie was teh only player to thank Moyes after he was not renewed
