Celtic have been tipped to sign West Ham’s recently released record goalscorer Michail Antonio on a free transfer.
At a time when the Hammers are short of fit strikers following Niclas Füllkrug’s injury on international duty, some had speculated whether the club might re-sign Antonio.
The veteran forward has continued using West Ham’s Rush Green training facilities during his rehabilitation and has even featured twice for the under-21s since his contract expired.
Celtic, meanwhile, have already signed one free-agent striker, reuniting Kelechi Iheanacho with Brendan Rodgers. The club had hoped to add another before deadline day, but failed moves for Kasper Dolberg and David Datro Fofana left them empty-handed.
That gap in Rodgers’ squad has prompted speculation north of the border that Antonio could be the man to fill it.
At present, West Ham have only two fit strikers in the form of Callum Marshall and Callum Wilson. Nonetheless, it’s unlikely graham Potter will look to re-sign Antonio, but then again, with Lukas Fabianski returning perhaps anything is possible.
They won’t be ‘getting him for nothing’. Didn’t his agent reject a West Ham deal as it wasn’t enough? Maybe he’ll be reasonably successful in Scottish football but then the majority of the opposition is at best League 1 standard.
I remeber him destroying us in a frendly but that was 4or 5 yrs ago if these professional look after themselves like athletes add another 4 to 5 years to there careerer
Celtic could be a good move for Antonio.
I think his best days are long behind him but I hope he finds the right club before he hangs up his boots.
Not signing a young striker from one of the top five leagues in Europe was a massive error. Relying on Wilson and the BFG is madness. Resigning Antonio would be an act of desperation.
What’s he worth, seriously.
Not much at his age, following such an injury, and following not doing much impressive for some time before the injury.
