Chairmen want “detailed explanation” before key vote

The bottom six clubs in the Premier League – joined possibly by Southampton and Sheffield United – will demand that the reason for playing games on neutral grounds is fully explained before a vote on Monday.

Chairmen are due to decide at a video conference but as threats and counter threats continue the club bosses are determined to get a full explanation of the plan and why neutral ground football is considered so vital .

Several we have spoken to see completely fail to understand why it is “safer” to play games on the grounds rather than in their own stadiums.

The PL’s decision to  draw up such a proposal appears to have been based on police advice that it may be safer to go in that direction despite football in Germany restarting on a normal basis.

Police indicated some weeks back that there could be challenges should games be played at home stadiums with the possibility of crowds gathering outside but chairmen are likely to point out the same scenario could surround neutral grounds but no frm recommendations appear to have been given.

One chairman told CandH this morning on the ‘phone: “There’s been so much discussion about this neutral ground thing but frankly the reasons being given for it are flimsy at best.

“We need to know why the PL is determined to go this way and precisely why they consider it so necessary. We really need a detailed explanation.”

  1. I concur with all that Allen, well said .

  2. Self interest here I know, but neutral grounds is not fair on the relegation clubs who need that advantage of playing at home!!! Norwich have 5 home games against teams who they can possibly pickup. many points – west ham, Brighton, Burnley, Southampton, and Everton. Two of which are 6 pointers!!! Why should Norwich lose the advantage of this good run in when they have already played the big clubs at Carrie Road!!!! A no brainer if Norwich won all 5 and picked up1 away point that’s 37 pts and safety!!! Who can say for definite that they can’t do it?!!!!

  3. It has to be played at every teams ground period.
Germany is doing it and will show the way.
Having it at neutral grounds will not stop fans from turning up.
The league does not need to start in June. July or even later are fine.
It will be like a village 5 aside tournament
