Club warned not to make Moyes mistake all over again | West Ham News

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Would we, as West Ham fans, have been quite so divided over the fate of ‘The Moyesiah’ had we have known what was lurking just around the corner – with our demise from the top seven of English football, orchestrated by two wrong manger appointments, one wrong technical director and a host of terrible transfers- taking place before our very eyes in just two short years?

Many would argue that it wasn’t the ‘letting go’ of David Moyes, but the terrible decisions that took place afterwards that consigned West Ham, inevitably, to the oblivion of relegation, massively in debt and with seemingly half a squad of old, unwanted or ‘want-away’, unplayable footballers on enormous wages.

David Moyes, whether you’re in the “love him” or “let him leave” category, created and presided over some amazing, unforgettable days at this football club. Well worthy of a statue, to be honest.

Happy days: West Ham’s Euro trophy win means Moyes will never be forgotten by West Ham fans

And now Everton are considering repeating the “West Ham move” and letting their most successful manager in recent seasons leave next summer when his contract expires. Footballinsider247’s article reminded me of the whole ‘be careful what you wish for‘ debate at West Ham, since the Toffees owners, despite their club riding high in eighth position in the Premier League, are apparently thinking the unthinkable just as David Sullivan did in 2023 and contemplating not renewing his contract:

“Everton will follow West Ham into the championship if David Moyes leaves’

…Runs their article this morning, with “Former West Ham scout Mick Brown, who worked closely alongside Moyes at the London Stadium, told Football Insider that it would be a “huge error” for Everton to let him go.”

I’d caveat that with provisos: Moyes does incredibly well to get the best results out of limited resources. All West Ham fans will know  that under Moyes, it isn’t always pretty.

Everton need to make sure they don’t compound the decision to fire Moyes by hiring first a Clown and then a Loser to follow him through the door at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

And don’t place the transfer decisions in the hands of an inept technical director hell bent on blowing the budget regardless of the age, quality or ability of players he recruited.

Apart from that, Everton fans, good luck. You’re going to need it. Take it from one who knows.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Curse you Shaun Wright-Phillips.
I still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows another six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser.
Can tell I'm getting old knowing I watched both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old.
Magic.

I was reading that Moyes is working with a squad of only 18 players, I’m not sure many managers could put up with that and still succeed. You say that Sullivan didn’t renew Moyes contract? We were led to believe that he was offered a new contract in December 2023 but turned it down (wisely as it turns out) because Steidten would be given full control of player recruitment, which is true?

Moyes was responsible for some strange transfer decisions where he failed to use / fell out with his own picks (Alex Krall, Nayef Aguerd, Thilo Kehrer) but also it seems that he was over-ruled on Scott McTominay who might have been a good signing
However this needed a mature approach from BS not the hiring of an ego maniac Director of Football looking for photo opportunities on his private Jet guaranteed to drive Moyes out the club
