Coyle explains Samuelsen’s Rovers departure

|

martinsamuelsen726Blackburn Rovers boss Owen Coyle has claimed that outside factors were responsible for his decision to release Martin Samuelsen from his loan at the club.

Speaking to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph Coyle revealed: “I cut the loan short. It’s very simple, Martin is a lovely young man, a talented man, but I think there was pressure from his family through to Martin who felt he should he starting every week in our team.

“We had a really good chat about it, I told him very honestly that I can’t guarantee with any player that they are going to start every week.

“It’s a fair fight for them all to be in the team, and with that in mind, I stressed that we only want players at Blackburn Rovers who want to be a part of what we’re doing.

“We both felt that it would be in his interests to go back to West Ham, play some games for the under-23s, which he can do until January, and then kick on from there.

“I do believe that in time Martin will have a very good career, he’s a talented player, but I think there is an element with young players that we operate in probably the fifth or sixth biggest league in Europe so you’re playing against quality players each week.

“So there’s no given, no matter who you are or where you’ve come from, that you will go in to the team.”

I think it is sensible advice, Coyle also told Samuelson he needs to learn when to release the ball, which is one major criticism there is about him, much like Joe Cole when he was with us he holds onto the ball too long. If he can sort that out he will be a top player.

Spot on. Just like Cole he often weaves his way around the pitch without going somewhere.
His national team coach said the same and so did his manager last year at peterborough.
Let’s hope he learns it soon or he could go out of top class football before he starts.
