Cresswell lays down top-four gauntlet

|

Aaron Cresswell insists West Ham are well in the top four fight ahead of the season’s run-in.

The Irons drew 1-1 with Burnley at the weekend but Spurs and Arsenal both lost, while Manchester United are playing Liverpool this evening.

It means that the Irons are now five points behind Spurs, but David Moyes’ side have to play Chelsea and Arsenal in their next two Premier League games, while they are also set to face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League semi-finals.

The remainder of the run-in sees the Hammers take on Norwich, Manchester City, and Brighton.

And Cresswell maintains that there is every chance West Ham can still work their way into the top four and qualify for the Champions League through the league.

Speaking to the London Evening Standard, he said: “We’ve still got five games to go and we’re never going to give up. There are still 15 points to play for, a lot of points.

“We’ve still got to play Arsenal and Chelsea. They’re tough teams but if we beat them you can see it as a six-pointer and we’re going to keep fighting until the end.”

It has to be said that the Hammers are outsiders; the maximum points the Irons can reach is 67. Spurs can top out at 76. But we can’t stop fighting, exactly as Cresswell insists.
