David Moyes still has to make a decision over whether or not to pursue a new goalkeeper this summer.
Various reports have claimed that the Hammers are eyeing a couple of new stoppers, including Nick Pope at Burnley and Manchester United’s Dean Henderson.
The Irons are also keeping close tabs on Jordan Pickford, as we have reported, in case Everton are relegated to the Championship.
There is a plan to offer Lukasz Fabianski a new deal, as Moyes has publicly confirmed, while the club also have the option to buy Alphonse Areola for £10m this summer, or potentially keep him on loan.
However, the Hammers could instead decide to pursue another goalkeeper, particularly if one of Burnley or Everton drop through the trapdoor and either Pope or Pickford become available.
A top club insider has told us that the Hammers are still waiting for Moyes, and his goalkeeper coach, to make a call on the position, with Areola’s future up in the air.
He is set to play in the semi-final of the Europa League against Eintracht Frankfurt and would also likely play in the final if the Hammers reach it.
Areola has only been the cup goalkeeper so far, with Fabianski still firmly the No.1.
I like Areola, Pope would be an upgrade, I suppose it would depend on wages etc,
I was thinking about other positions,
And our of contract players
Lacazette
Tarkowski
Lingard
Would be 3 good additions although not sure lacazette fits DM ethos
Pope’s kicking isn’t up to scratch.
Henderson is an excellent keeper, in my opinion.
Areola is also an excellent keeper in my opinion.
Pickford isn’t an excellent keeper in anyone’s opinion!!
Therefore, why not pay £10m, relatively cheap for a goalkeeper who is 29 and excellent? Seems simple, really…
