West Ham Set For Second Shot At Midfield Target Moyes Rejected

West Ham United could finally be about to land a player at the second time of asking if reports in Italy are to be believed.

Youssouf Fofana was close to joining West Ham in 2023 after then Hammers director of football Tim Steidten recommended him as first choice to replace Declan Rice.

Moyes Decision Changed West Ham Plan

Advanced negotiations between the Frenchman and West Ham took place. However, the plug was pulled on the deal when then manager David Moyes decided instead to opt for James Ward-Prowse.

Claret & Hugh covered the story at the time and spoke to an agent involved in the preliminary talks, who told us:

“West Ham only got Edson Álvarez as a backup. The deal for Fofana was close, but Moyes wanted to push through the Ward-Prowse deal.”

Missed Move Could Return

The Hammers missed out on a deal for the energetic midfielder, and Steidten was then instructed to find a player to complement Ward-Prowse, which is why the club ended up signing Álvarez.

However, new reports suggest that should West Ham survive their Premier League relegation struggle, they would again be interested in the midfielder.

Milan Sale Opens Door

AC Milan are said to be willing to sell before they buy, which could open the door for West Ham to revive their long-standing interest.

It remains to be seen whether the Hammers make their move, but this may be one transfer story not finished just yet

Hammers Chat my first game was West Ham 10-0 Bury . . . seriously!
We than went and bought Bury's central defender 😬⚒️ Irons

I started Hammers Chat alongside my partner in crime Geo back in 2014 and brough in to Claret & Hugh by my old mate Hughie to produce videos a couple of years later.

I give West Ham opinions and interviews on Sky Sports News and even did a bit of moonlighting on BBC Football Focus. Former video and content creator for West Ham United back in the days of Upton Park. I was lucky enough to feature in the documentary broadcast on that final wonderful game at the Boleyn when Winston Reid broke Manchester United hearts.

I frequently feature on BBC Radio 5 Live and once ate a biscuit in Tony Gales shed.

Connoisseur of salted caramel doughnuts and I love a Sloppy Giuseppe pizza although I'm slightly suspicious where the name came from.

When I'm not moaning about West Ham I can be found walking a dog that looks like a sheep and tinkering with pinball machines.

More West Ham moaning is done on a daily basis here 👇👇

Waed prowse ahead of fofana for an incredible 30 million and the moyse lovers wonder why we were so glad to see the bock of him.

JWP was a good signing for Moyes though, 11 assists and 6 goals. No guarantee that Forfana would have made that impression

Are the club getting all their ducks in a row, ahead of the outgoing transfer of MF?
As previously stated, whichever league we!re in, we need to sell before we buy?
