Dean Ashton’s injury still haunts us

|

ashtonThe sad news of Dimtri Payet’s left ankle ligament injury has brought back haunting memories of former Hammer Dean Ashton.

A tackle by Shaun Wright-Phillips in 2006 during a training session with England ahead of Steve McClaren’s first game in charge damaged Ashton’s left medial ankle ligaments. It would be a year before he would play for West Ham again.

He fought his way back but within three months of returning he broke down again and played his last game. It was another 14 frustrating months of rehabilitation before Ashton was finally ready to call it a day at the age 26.

In 2011 West Ham sought compensation for Ashton, prepared a writ against the FA for £10.5m. In 2013 Ashton started his own claim for work injury compensation for loss of future earnings following his 2006 injury while playing for England.

Payet is already 28 year old but let’s all hope he makes a full  and speedy recovery but we have seen so many promising West Ham players who are never the same after a serious injury and operation.

If a tackle takes out the man even it is ball first ( which this wasn’t !) it should be a red card all day long . With transfer fees costing millions of £s there should also be compensation from the offending players club .Something has to be done to outlaw this type of cynical tactics from the game . This could have a huge impact on our season .

I didn’t actually see this incident but from all the reports, it is hard to see anything but a red card incident.
Over the past several games we have seen red cards come out for far less than this one is described as.

Maybe referees have to be given specific cardable offences, if they consistently ignore their own guidelines and training…for instance a two footed tackle from behind, as this one was, gets a red card regardless.
Or maybe any tackle that could injure.

    McCarthy should be sued!!!!
It was completely intended to hurt an opponent !!
    It was assault .
Do that to someone in the. street and you will get nicked ,
Its an assault with intent to cause pain !!!
The FA Should act on this type of assault , as someone pointed out earlier he launched with two feet , followed through with intent with studs up and .all sending off offences by FA rules, why did the ref just show a yellow ???? Weak, naive, and incompetent , the FA MUST LOOK INTO THIS FOUL PLAY . There were tackles coming in from behind all the game that went unpunished which gave it the the green light .
The question is why he allowed it to happen, he also blew 10 – 15 SEC’s early as carol was running in on goal ?? Looks a bias decision to any neutral viewing it !!
