THE confirmation that skipper Jarrod Bowen is staying at the club has gone down a storm with supporters who had been getting a little restless over the club’s lack of transfer activity this Summer.

No doubt, Bowen’s public commitment to the Irons’ cause will have knock-on consequences for other players who will now, hopefully, do the same.

Possibly not Crysencio Summerville – despite the standard.co.uk’s suggestion this afternoon that Kretinsky hopes to keep the winger (which is, in all probability, more designed as a message to the Dutchman’s would-be buyers that West Ham are not for lowballing).

The delay in new signings has been explained by ITK ExWHUEmployee who suggest that it is owing to the club wanting only top quality players that there may be many weeks of waiting before the recruits they seek commit to a move ‘down’ to the Championship – presumably only if no better offers in the top tier come along:

“At the moment, we are targeting decent quality players who we believe can not only do a job in the Championship but also remain with us in the Premier League should we get promoted. This strategy will mean that targets could take some time to sign, which will play into the hands of the insecure and more anxious of us”.

Nuno only wants top-tier players

“As we are targeting top players, they will have more options than others, and many will think that they will have Premier League options. It is up to us to convince them to join the club either now or when they perhaps don’t get the offers they may be expecting.

“Naturally the obvious choice that we would like to sign is Axel Disasi for the centre back position and we made our intentions very clear to him that we wish to do this.”

Which means, no end in sight to the wait for new arrivals then: Indeed it could be very late-on in the window, only when players have exhausted other avenues for Premier League moves – that they have to reconsider offers put forward by West Ham.

With just three weeks to go before the Carling Cup season curtain raiser, it could be white knuckles and bitten nails all round to see if the Hammers will hit the ground running with new signings in place. Hmm. That sounds familiar..

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

There is no doubt Disarsi will leave Chelsea.
Will Bowens declaration of intent prove pivotal.
What is Disarsi true thoughts on playing championship football.
Kretinsky looks to be well on the way to retaining core of last year’s players.
Hopefully Disarsi will give whu another 12 months.
Not going to need many other targets.

Sounds reasonable as long as we are being realistic about the targets. Hope we are looking more at talent from the championship and league 1 rather than from top european leagues as otherwise there is a risk of us just being strung along by players and their agents.
