West Ham are this afternoon poised to deliver the news that will make all Hammers fans incredibly happy, and that is that captain Jarrod Bowen has committed his future to the club by signing a new contract.

The news was broken this morning by The Athletic. However, it is understood that the club are set to make a statement later today confirming the exciting news.

The new deal, which keeps Bowen at the club until 2030, means he has committed his immediate future to helping West Ham win promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

A Huge Statement Of Intent

In what is sure to be a massive boost to Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad, the deal also endorses the earlier claims made by West Ham’s owners that they intend to keep their key players with the aim of securing promotion from the Championship.

And as far as key players go, there is none more important than Bowen.

As I’ve mentioned on numerous occasions, there is certainly a pragmatism amongst Hammers fans who understand that some players will have to leave.

But retaining the captain, and the player who registered the second-highest number of assists in the Premier League last season, is a real declaration of intent.

Everybody involved at the club deserves a huge pat on the back for this one.

The Perfect Message

It should also encourage other key players, such as Konstantinos Mavropanos and Taty Castellanos, to commit their own futures to helping West Ham secure promotion at the first attempt, now that both Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek appear set to be here for the duration of the club’s first season back in the EFL.

Certainly, the news comes just a day after Wolverhampton Wanderers were forced to sell arguably their best player, João Gomes, to Aston Villa.

That makes West Ham’s announcement on Bowen all the more significant and is sure to cause concern amongst the other Championship promotion hopefuls.

It’s difficult to imagine the Hammers making a bigger statement this summer than keeping hold of their captain.

Great news on Bowen as far as I’m concerned though I worry for the player himself as he was getting flak at various times last season from people who I don’t think fully understood his leadership abilities and importance to the team. If he has a dip of form at any point next season and he gets similar flak he might start to wonder just why he was so loyal to the club. For me though it puts him up there with the likes of Trevor Brooking another great who stayed loyal in the lower division despite being an England international.

He probably didn’t fancy telling his father in law he was going. Joking apart absolutely brilliant news for us. He will score loads this year when we signed him he was ripping it up in the championship as a young player in a side who were mid table. Top class fella with great loyalty to the club. What a star

  • Michael Khoury says:

Hes hasn’t signed a new deal, his current contract ran until 2030 so all he’s done is commit his future to the club and said that he will play in the championship. Nothing more, nothing less.
    Lazy journalism here, disappointing

It is being reported though that he has signed a new deal, just a different one that does not include any extra years. So it can be true that he signed a new deal and that it runs to 2030.

Mr Bowen you have just become a West Ham legend. In this day and age such loyalty is unknown. Thank You.

What’s Goldstein got to say about this now then?

  • Jeeps says:

Club has to back his confidence.
X2 centre back (incl. Disarsi), mid-fielder, explosive player to replace Summerville, recognised goal scorer.
Maybe goalkeeper if Areola goes. Mavro looks like he staying.
Bissaka won’t be going if they insist on £25m need to be realistic but him staying won’t be that bad.
Also need to ensure bench is strong to cover injuries/suspensions/fatigure.

  • Darkhorse says:

Bowen was always going to stay. Least it stops all the silly stories will he or won’t hel

  • Phil Meacock says:

Great news, now he will become an absolute bonafide legend with this commitment on top of everything he has already done with us.
