Dicks breaks silence on Hammers exit

|

dicksFormer Hammers first-team coach Julian Dicks has broken his silenceĀ  since losing his job with the club following the departure of Slaven Bilic.

The former West HamĀ defender was talking to Hammers fans at a Hammers Heroes event in Hornchurch theatre earlier this week with Ludo, Tony Gale and John Moncur.

The 49-year-old said he was not bitter but claimed he found out he had lost his job from West Ham via his daughter rather than the club saying the first phone call he received was from club secretary Andy Pincher asking for the club Ipad back.

Although he wouldn’t name players he allegedly claimed there were some lazy individuals in the first team who would often use injury as an excuse and said the former head of medical lost his job for backing up the claims of some of these players.

He also said that Toni Martinez isn’t ready for the first-team action yet saying that he just scores goals in a non-competitive league and he needs more about his game to get a chance in the first team.

It is a pity he did not expand on his actual role in the coaching set up, we have had reports that he was in charge of teaching the players to cross the ball, which for a out & out defender who was lucky to hit a barn door seeems ludricous

I stated that his appointment was totally wrong on the day that he was employed by Bilic. He had a terrible attitude to training as a player and I thought he would have a negative impact on the squad. The likes of Dicks and PDC have no place at a premiership club.

what a shame that Dicks turned up at a heroes chat and didn’t own up to his shortcomings, its obvious he was given the job to appease fans who didn’t want Bilic, and as a defender he took no blame in our inept defending. i think at a past heroes for fans meet you were in the wrong room, let yourself down there Julian.

I feel many thought Dicksy was brought in as a defence coach… which i believe is incorrect.
Yes we have had reports he was lazy at training as a player. . But he is a club legend and is whu through and through.. ive seen his coaching and i felt you get something out of it.. was bilic soft yes it sounds it… problem is we just never know what goes behind the scene…

Would make better sense to have rio as a coach than dicks not that dicks is not a good left back and one of the best left foot players around at the time but not one to become a coach same was with bonzo great player but not one to put in everything as h did as a manager to the club. H talks eats and knows all about every player as that’s all he knows in life. Bonzo more a family man train coach and home. Hope rio gets his chance one day as I think he will make a good coach imo

Some people have terrible memories. For a player who ” couldn’t hit a barn door”, how the hell did he manage to score 50, yes 50 goals in his West Ham career? Slightly under 1 every 5 games. We have forwards who are not doing that.
