West Ham insider ExWHUEmployee has revealed this morning that the club are in talks over a new contract for defender Konstantinos Mavropanos.

The Hammers owners recently flew Jarrod Bowen to the Czech Republic before agreeing a new deal for the West Ham captain, keeping him at the club for the Championship campaign.

It would now appear, according to this morning’s update from X, that they are planning to do exactly the same with Mavropanos.

Another Statement Of Intent

Whilst West Ham have appeared really slow out of the blocks when it comes to signing players, the intention to retain so many proven Premier League performers could prove crucial to the club’s promotion hopes.

Mavropanos, of course, was Hammer of the Year last season and, one would expect, will comfortably be the best central defender in the Championship.

Keeping hold of the Greek centre-back would be another huge declaration of intent, following the retention of Bowen, and would further underline the club’s ambition to secure promotion at the first attempt.

Attention Turns To Recruitment

Of course, new signings will still have to arrive.

And as Claret & Hugh reported last night, an agreement has been reached for AS Roma to sign Crysencio Summerville, even if the final package falls a little short of West Ham’s original valuation.

That injection of working capital should improve cash flow and allow recruitment director Nils Koppen to begin bringing players into the football club.

If West Ham can combine the retention of key players such as Bowen and Mavropanos with a handful of quality additions, the squad will already be in a far stronger position than many feared at the end of last season.

The pyramid is almost built with old campaigners shaking hands.
Get recruits into the fold job done (sooner the better).

Gonzo this should have been done sooner but with the Sulivan change timing I guess this as quick as it gets. It’s the right thing to do now the hard bit, getting players in !

Hopefully this contract does not contain a dodgy escape clause otherwise he is better off staying on his existing contract.
