Don’t tread this route Pellegrini – remember Evra

|

It’s a matter of some concern that we are being linked with free agent midfielders whom is it is claimed can help us sort out our midfield.

It is also a bit mad!

Why? Because thus far the two names being mentioned are Yaya Toure at 35 years old and Mathieu Flamini at 34 – so just two words: ‘come on.’

Toure – despite being part of a Pellegrini Man City team – is unable to find a club anywhere and there’s a reason for that.

Thankfully the manager has ruled him out as an option.

Former Arsenal defensive midfielder Flamini moved on from north London to Crystal Palace as a free agent in 2016 and was soon released after making 10 appearances. Last season he made eight for Getafe in La Liga and is now available to anyone who wants him.

That we are being linked to such guys is pretty appalling at such an early stage of the season but much as I want to, I find it impossible to defend the situation in our midfield and thus understand why these suggestions are surfacing.

There’s no pace, no energy and it could quickly become a problem based on what we saw against Bournemouth.

We  can only hope and pray the manager knows how to solve the issue but please, let’s forget free signings. That doesn’t work.

Remember Patrice Evra?!   This is not a road we want to tread again.
