El Hadji Malick Diouf departed for Brentford at a pretty decent price for West Ham yesterday, leaving the Irons short on numbers in a crucial position: Only Ollie Scarles remaining in the squad as a specialist left back means – in this position as well as in central defence – Nuno’s options are threadbare.
The £35 million banked from Diouf’s sale would surely see West Ham add to their left sided defensive options before Tuesday night.

Diouf now joins former Hammer Callum Wilson at Brentford
After all, nobody sells a player that late in the window without having a replacement lined up, do they?
Our source close to several first team players, but outside the club was adamant that there’s a bigger plan afoot at London stadium and that head of recruitment Nils Koppen is all over the process to recruit an alternative.
As it was put to us last night:
“West Ham have offers in right now for more than one left back”
Whilst the player identities are, these days, kept a pretty impressively guarded secret, it is reassuring to know that West Ham have every intention of replacing Diouf ahead of Tuesday night’s deadline rather than cobble together a combination of Kyle Walker Peters and Ezra Mayers to deputise for Scarles should he get injured or fall out of favour with Nuno.
Alongside a Centre back and a winger, presumably. Talk about last minute dot com.
Mayers is a better LB than Scarles. We need a new LB and a new RB.
Do they? Csn you be certain that your source is not giving you a Sullivan style brush off? I very much doubt we have bids in for more than one LB and we will not sign a new left back this window
Scarles is rubbish! Why are we making out he’s anything else? We all wanted him to be amazing, but he really isn’t and never will be? I’ve always wanted a Ferrari but can’t afford one so I have a Ford focus instead? Same thing ⚒️⚒️⚒️⚒️
Problem is confidence, I think having Kilman inside would cause anyone to have nightmares.
West ham are like standing at bus stop at 12.15 and last bus went at 12.00.
Closing barn doors after horses have bolted.
No planning or fore thought we’ll worry about that when it happens.
Who is making transfer decisions back to Sullivan days Nuno apparently disagrees with Koppen.
Needs to stand back look at Southampton result and realise the right path to take.
Standing at the bus stop at 12:15 having checked the timetable, feeling a little bit tipsy/merry, swaying slightly while staring at a clear sky, telling yourself that after all it’s a nice enough night for a walk 😊… them’s the days.
I’m all nostalgic now.
Cheers Jeeps and you are definitely right about the Southampton result.
Believe it when I see it
Vlad?
Hmmmm, there was a story a couple of weeks ago, wasn’t there.. and Coufal did post a piccie of the London Stadium on his insta feed..Could do worse.
