Ex-Irons midfielder linked with Championship job

|

Former West Ham midfielder Michael Carrick is being linked with the Middlesbrough job.

The Championship club sacked Chris Wilder earlier this month and have yet to appoint a replacement.

Carrick has subsequently come into the frame, with BBC Sport claiming the club are keen to speak to the ex-England international about the prospect of becoming their new manager.

Carrick began his career with the Hammers, making his professional debut in 1999 and staying until 2004, when he joined Spurs.

He went on to spent two years at White Hart Lane before moving to Manchester United, where he went on to win five Premier League trophies, as well as the Champions League, the Europa League, the FA Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup and the League Cup, twice.

Carrick has not been in a job since leaving Manchester United; he was placed in temporary charge of the first-team after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked.

He could now be on his way to the Riverside.
