Claret & Hugh have discovered the truth behind rumours that midfielder Lucas Paquetá met with Flamengo officials to discuss a transfer over the weekend.

Stories of the Hammers’ Brazilian playmaker meeting with an official from the Brazilian Serie A club began circulating yesterday. Early this morning, speculation gathered pace that West Ham would be willing to accept a £20m offer for the player in the summer.

However, after speaking to both the club and a source very close to the player himself, C&H can reveal that the story is “nonsense.”

We have had confirmation from a top source within the club and a third party that Flamengo made an approach for Paquetá in the past, but there has been no recent contact.

When we spoke to a source close to the player within the past hour to ask if there was any truth to the rumours that the Hammers’ record signing had met with anyone representing Flamengo, we were told, “NO.”

However, our source elaborated further, saying: “They made an offer 13 months ago, which was rejected—that’s it. What nonsense.”

Other conversations have revealed that the offer made was considered derisory, and the club never took the interest seriously.

It has also been pointed out to us that Paquetá has looked back to his best since new manager Graham Potter joined the club and has not asked to leave

What happened to the Paqueta hearing in Brazil?

  • Essexiron42 says:

Once again the 2 reports include completely contradictory information. At 4pm C&H reported “ We contacted our senior source inside West Ham who gave us the startling response: “Ask him not me – I know nothing about it”. 90 minutes later this article states “ We have had confirmation from a top source within the club and a third party that Flamengo made an approach for Paquetá in the past, but there has been no recent contact.”

Can’t you just investigate whether the claims are true and then publish your findings to help avoid adding to all the unhelpful speculation?

The source was a Brazilian newspaper called “O Dia”. It’s a sensationalist rag best known for its graphic descriptions of violent crimes, so not the most reliable.

Oh well, if that’s the truth, then it must the whole truth, surely 😏

The majority of your “stories are waffle and nonsense – I knew it before I opened it and wasted my time.
Why always post the same “story twice”
