Hammers to start crunch clash with a bang

Tomas Soucek is adamant that West Ham can overturn a 1-0 deficit when they face Freiburg at the London Stadium tomorrow.

The fact that manager David Moyes chose to take the big Czech midfielder into the Europa League press conference probably indicates that Soucek will start the fixture. But the midfielder does have a point when discussing West Ham’s ability to bounce back from a losing position.

In fact, one could argue that West Ham are at their best when trailing, not just in Premier League games like Burnley, as Soucek was keen to point out.

“We have players here who have played together in Europe for a while now, and we’re all more experienced,” Soucek told reporters.

Tomas Soucek says Expect Hammers to start with a bang

Expect Hammers to start with a bang was Tomas Soucek’s pledge ahead of the crucial game against Freiburg

“A lot of people are comparing this game to the Sevilla fixture two years ago. We were on it from the first minute in that match, and the fans were amazing, and hopefully tomorrow night pans out like that again.”

He makes a valid point, and I would certainly expect West Ham to win the game and advance to the quarter-finals.

If I had to guess Moyes’ starting lineup, it would be: Fabianski, Coufal, Mavropanos, Zouma, Emerson, Alvarez, Soucek, Paqueta, Kudus, Bowen & Antonio.

That should be more than enough to see off Freiburg.
