Eyebrow-raising Taty Castellanos claim will leave West Ham fans cold

With one goal so far this season, West Ham’s Argentine striker Taty Castellanos has been a master of link-up play without hitting the heights as an out-and-out hit man. Often deployed in a deeper position, there’s a sense that Nuno is still tinkering with his frontmen and has yet to work out how to deploy his trio of Taty, Pablo and Piroe for the best results.

Last season saw Castellanos score seven times in the losing cause that was West Ham’s relegation squad, having only arrived in the January window. More goals will surely follow for the 28 year old who has made it his mission to get the Hammers back out of the second division. Remember it was Taty who:

“blames himself, and if he can’t help this club win and achieve promotion, he’ll never forgive himself for it,”

Good asset though he is, few West Ham fans would deem him their ‘most valuable’ asset but that is exactly the eyebrow-raising label given to Castellanos by football-observatory.com in their ‘top estimated value player per club‘ table today, further suggesting Taty has the second highest value in the whole division with only Wolves’ Mateus Mané worth more.

Castellanos apparently has an estimated value of €39-45m, with Mané tipping their list at a huge €43-50m.

Good to know another West Ham deal from last year would show a profit – if Taty quit the club then West Ham should be able to bank another 10 million profit on the deal in just twelve months.

However if you asked a hundred West Ham supporters who their most valuable player is right now, I suspect maybe ten per cent would nominate West Ham’s number 11. Dinos Mavropanos or Jarrod Bowen would probably be most fans’ nomination and I suspect both will have a greater impact on the promotion battle that lies ahead.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

Agree with Bowen being our most valuable.

I’ve got a feeling, though, that by the end of the season Kante’s market value might top them all.

What happened about the spitting allegation ?

Dropped as quietly as possible when there was found to be no substance to it ?

To be fair he does have 3 goals in 3 League Cup ties as well, but Jarrod is our most valuable player in every sense of the word
