The old proverb that ‘speech is silver but silence is golden‘ appears to be proving true in the transfer market with West Ham, Manchester United and Tottenham all remaining tight-lipped on the state of their transfer negotiations for Mateus Fernandes.

As the Hammers continue to refuse to entertain ‘low’ bids for the super talented youngster, the pursuers find themselves forced higher and higher with the fear of missing out driving their negotiating stance.

Incredibly, ‘In the Know’ transfer guru Fabrizio Romano’s latest update today suggests that £85 million may just be the starting point. In a fresh update from givemesport.com the transfer expert claims:

It now depends on the club, so who can agree terms with West Ham will get the player, and it’s about the money, because they start at £85million, could be more if these clubs keep fighting for the same player, and also payment tariffs are also important for West Ham, so it’s not just about the fee, it’s also about the timing to pay this money.”

For his part, Fernandes appears equally happy to move to either club and is not muddying the waters in West Ham’s transfer dealings:

“One day Tottenham is bidding, one day Manchester United is bidding, but it’s all about verbal proposals. I told you the player will go to the club able to reach an agreement with West Ham on finance..The player is ready to accept both projects”.

With pre-season starting on 6th July at both West Ham and Spurs, there is just the sense that these verbal bids and shadow boxing transfer negotiations are about to get very real: Manchester United start their pre-season training on 9th July, a little later than the Hammers, but there is every likelihood that the deal to sell Fernandes will be wrapped up before West Ham’s squad convenes at Rush Green in a little over a week’s time.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

I am not all that convinced about Romano especially where West Ham are concerned. “One day Tottenham are bidding the next day Man Utd are bidding” excuse me but who are they making these bids to if we haven’t received any?

Can’t believe what I’m hearing spuds want our teenage sensation on the cheap and dangle a carrot loan of their teenage starlet who won’t get a game in the premier League, they can do a long run off a short pier, no loan but maybe a permanent transfer might be possible, the days of pulling Sullivans pants down on transfers are over, now start being sensible put up or shut up
