West Ham United’s official communication was curt and to the point: Unlike many players who have been thanked for their service or wished well for their futures, the statement confirming another player departure was blunt, to the point and quite deliberately fell short of the warm words normally associated with an official ‘farewell’ when convention dictates most hatchets are buried.

The words confirming the departure of the 2024/5 Hammer of the Year were so blunt they might almost have been written by Nuno himself.

“West Ham United can confirm that Aaron Wan-Bissaka has joined Aston Villa on loan for the 2026/27 season, with an obligation to make the transfer permanent next summer should certain conditions be met.”

From Hammer of the Year to ‘fond farewells’ -all in one season: Aaron Wan Bissaka

The fan response, according to yahoo sport, was a little less polite after Wan Bissaka reportedly downed tools and refused to train with Nuno’s squad.

“Good riddance”

The ‘obligation’  [to make the transfer permanent] better be no more than 5 deep breaths in Birmingham”

..and perhaps least charitable:“Another rat in the camp gone. Todibo next”

Either way Wan Bissaka has now departed for Aston Villa but fans and the player could yet face the most awkward of reunions: Unai Emery proved last season that he’s not afraid of leaving loanees with obligations stuck on the bench all year if he doesn’t fancy them.

Just ask Liverpool’s Harvey Elliot who endured a nightmare season on loan with no prospect of game time with the Villa owing to – the 10-game obligation inserted in his loan deal.

The worry will be then, if Wan Bissaka has a similar obligation in his loan, then he’ll quite possibly be east London bound again come May next year to become the founder member of West Ham’s unofficial 2027 ‘bomb squad’ – when we’ll have probably just about disbanded the last one.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

With our beloved club being run like a pub team, is it any surprise all and sundry want to jump a sinking ship! The major shareholder seems to be alive and kicking!

Was the club’s media team too busy leaking stories to ITK’s to bother with a team sheet for the u21s game earlier?

How come so many of our players fall out with Nuno? Recurring theme going on….

Not sure how much playing time he will get could be another Harvey Elliott.
