West Ham could consider selling Taty Castellanos in the January transfer window, just a year after signing the Argentine striker for £27million. According to club insider ExWHUEmployee, the Hammers may be prepared to listen to offers if they represent good value for the club.
The claim was made on The West Ham Way Podcast and raises fresh questions about the future of a player who has endured a disappointing Championship campaign. Castellanos has managed just one league goal this season, hardly the return West Ham would have expected from one of their most expensive attacking players.
As Claret & Hugh revealed exclusively earlier this week, money is already available for Nuno Espírito Santo to strengthen his squad in January. However, Ex’s latest information suggests additional funds could potentially be generated by allowing underperforming players to leave.
West Ham’s £27m Striker Has Struggled
Castellanos has had something of a stinker this season, registering just one Championship goal.
He started Saturday’s 3-2 defeat against Southampton and, as I remarked in my post-match review, looked disinterested until the final ten minutes, when he suddenly burst into life.
That was particularly frustrating because it demonstrated that there is a player in there capable of making things happen. Unfortunately, we’ve seen precious little of it this season.
Taty would certainly fall into the category of underperforming players, although it is fair to say West Ham would be fortunate to recoup the £27million paid to Lazio last January.
The question is whether Nuno believes he can get more out of the Argentine or whether the club would be better off cutting its losses and reinvesting elsewhere.
Could David Moyes Return For Castellanos?
Interestingly, Everton and former West Ham manager David Moyes reportedly made a deadline-day approach for Castellanos during the summer.
According to reports citing TEAMtalk, Everton explored a deal worth up to £45million, but West Ham were unable to secure a replacement before the transfer window closed.
That was then, of course, and Castellanos’s disappointing Championship form is unlikely to have increased his value.
Nevertheless, perhaps Everton’s previous interest could be revisited in January.
There is no suggestion at this stage that Moyes has renewed his pursuit, but if West Ham are genuinely prepared to entertain offers, it would be interesting to see whether the Toffees come back to the negotiating table.
With the Hammers chasing promotion and their recognised strikers struggling for goals, January could present an opportunity to reshape Nuno’s attacking options.

I think Taty should be moved on, assuming we can recoup the money. Can’t believe if Everton offered 45million we did not snap their hand off, not having time to get a striker in was no excuse, I am sure we have enough cover. On his form now we will be lucky to get our money back. His heart is just not in it.He needs to be dropped or he is going to cost us dearly
