Forgotten Hammers give Nuno a reminder | Behind closed doors game yields surprises galore

WITH THE first ‘official’ pre season fixture due on Saturday, West Ham United arranged a ‘behind closed doors’ friendly to get some much needed match practise into the legs of their entire squad this afternoon.

The Hammers took on a Colchester United side at Rush Green, ahead of the ‘official’ friendly season commencing with an away fixture on Saturday at Southend United.

Apart from those players involved in the summer Internationals, apparently the whole Hammers squad took part in the game of two halves in which different XI’s were put out by Nuno.

Pablo Felipe

Confidence boost for Pablo

And the ‘forgotten’ West Ham players who have been away from the club this year marked their returns with reminders for Nuno. According to whufc.com:

“Nuno and his staff, including recently appointed Assistant Head Coach Rui Pedro Silva, watched on intently, making tactical and positional changes and encouraging hard work and commitment throughout.

West Ham won 3-2, with Niclas Füllkrug, Maxwel Cornet and Pablo Felipe on the scoresheet for Nuno’s side.”

Probably the least likely scoring threesome of any West Ham players: It might have been only a friendly but the trio cannot have done themselves any harm at all as Nuno weighs up his squad options for the Championship season.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

With no buyers for these ‘tainted’ players it’s a good move by Nuno by giving them some time on the pitch. Even salvaging one or two of them for the challenge ahead this year would be useful.

I’d be more worried about the fact that Colchester managed to put 2 past us.

There is a player in Fullkrug, he just hasn’t done it for us, perhaps he never will but who knows.

Telling you now Pablo is going to have a good season so let those who keep knocking him give the man a chance….played out of position and in a struggling side lets see what he does when played in his proper role.

100% agree. He’s a hold up / link up player, not a deep lying forward. Once he’s given that role, his numbers will improve. I don’t think he’s at Premier league standard yet, but some strikers bloom late. Mateta was pants a couple of years ago, now he’s in the France squad. As long as his attitude is good, he’s in with a chance of improving. The issue with Pablo was never the player, it was the fee.
