Former Hammer, Sean Maguire has made a perfect start for Cork City by scoring twice at the weekend.
The striker was the difference between the two teams as he helped Cork get off to a winning start at home on the first day of the Irish league.
“Before the game, I would have taken three points and no goals, but scoring two goals in the ‘Shed End’ on my debut is just a bonus, so I’m delighted,” Maguire told reporters.
“Coming here, there was a bit of pressure, but I think scoring in the past couple of games has given me confidence and hopefully I can just kick on from here.”
The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international added: “I worked really hard in pre-season and John [Caulfield] has shown faith in me, playing me up front on my own with Gav [Holohan] and we’ve formed a good partnership, we know each other really well.”
Cork manager John Caulfield was impressed by his new acquisition.
“It might be a rejuvenated Seanie Maguire and that’s what we want,” Caulfield told reporters after the game. It was two ‘fox in the box’ finishes in a game that was tight and I suppose they were goals out of nothing, which is a credit to Sean. Since he’s come in, his work rate and attitude have been phenomenal. If he keeps working like that, he’ll score goals and that’s what we want.”
If I remember when he came to us we were told he was the Irish Messi ?
Wish the lad all the best but obviously when with us not good enough, but that’s the problem
now is Messi good enough ?
He would have learnt a lot with us so go forth and spread the Westham Way and entertain the Irish
“playing me up front on my own with Gav [Holohan] and we’ve formed a good partnership..”
Up front on your own with someone, that must be an Irish strategy!
As for the Messi bit, that was just a bit of Whetstone stupidity!

I seem to recall you choosing it as a headline as well! Just because someone else used it, it doesn’t make it less stupid that you chose to propagate it.
We report the news, we don’t make the news 😉
I resisted the headline former Irish Messi bags brace for Cork 😉
Well it looks like our league position is worrying the so called elite news pundits , it appears we are going to make an approach for 2 , yes 2 arsenal sick notes to come here and make us a great team , pus I might add that Antonio is on manure,s list and ogbonna for city ?
They really don’t like the idea of us coming into their domain !!
It appears we have arrived and that disruption is the name of the day ( cheating / gamesmanship ) fergie / wengeress type of psychology , sad sad ugly Muppet people !
Its like a pantomime for children of conservative values preaching spin to achieve their sinister objectives , some would call it common purpose but others would call it plain cheating , gamesmanship ?? I wonder who’s next in line for a move , payet / lanzini / sahkho / we shall see in the closing stages of this season of which I’m sure ?
Never mind we have the Viking Messi still with us,
Heard totscum are trying to nick our tea lady.
